Today we lost of the greatest guitarists of all time, legend Eddie Van Halen, I've been a big fan of Van Halen for a while now and it's very sad to hear Eddie has lost his 5 year battle with cancer. rest in peace Eddie

It’s long, but for those in particular unfamiliar with how brilliant Eddie was, it’s a must see. There is some debate as to wether Eddie invented this technique but he is usually credited for inventing it and in any case he was absolutely the best at it. This entire piece is basically an extended version of the song Eruption....Eruption was Eddie just “ playing around” on his guitar in warm up to starting an actual recording session and has been well documented. Could you imagine being so good at your instrument that you can just play around and make sounds like that? RIP Eddie, You were incredible.

To lighten things up, this clip I always found hilarious even though I have never watched South Park or the Simpsons etc in my life. The healing power of music...... even though this video is a wonderful spoof would it not be awesome were it true? I say make it happen! Crank up some Van Halen and so many of the worlds problems are forgotten so quickly.

Doesn't it feel like the world has gone down the crapper in the last 20 years? That's two decades where we've heard very little from Van Halen. HUGE loss for music.

I did not but my younger brother did during the Diver Down tour. He had a blast and remembers it well. The book Van Halen rising really opens your eyes as to how hard those guys worked to achieve greatness. They don’t make them like that anymore....and that’s not hyperbole.

[/quote] Yes, I saw them twice on tour in 2004 when they reunited with Sammy Hagar, and two more times in 2007 & 2008 when they first got back together with David Lee Roth. Great live band.

I'm probably the only poster at this forum who is unfamiliar with the music of Eddie Van Halen outside of his solo on "Beat It". That's not entirely true though. Three years ago we were holidaying in the Baltic States and just happened to be in Riga when this drum orchestra played along to "Jump" in the main square. Rest in peace, Eddie.
