Not okay to see this list growing... Hal Willner has passed.
I love many of the projects he put together. So many songs pairing the right song to the right artist to play them.
Hal's up there with the stars. rest in peace, brother.

County Durham’s finest, consisting here of brothers Paddy and Martin McAloon, lip-synching to their 2001 song Cowboy Dreams. Paddy isn’t really plinking that banjo, which was the work of Eric Weissberg, famed more for his Duelling Banjos solo, and who sadly passed on March 22nd.

Did you catch Martin's lengthy Live From Gosforth gig a few days ago that was organised via the Sprout Facebook people? Apart from the fact that he admits he can't sing (but in fact he can, and makes a good fist of it), the two brothers are looking uncannily alike these days. Let me know if you want the link, it's only up until Saturday.

Rest in peace, Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk (born 1947).
I'm not familiar with that much of their work but I do own and love Autobahn and Trans-Europe Express. David Bowie named a cool instrumental after Florian on his album Heroes.

Paul must be shedding a tear today. He owes Little Richard so much for those inspirational early vocals.
Another legend gone. rest in peace, little brother.

Awe man, Little Richard! One of my favorite rock and rollers. The first Glam rocker, imho. He was fun to listen and watch perform. Rest in Peace, Great One!

Who remembers the Billboard Top 5 album that includes both Little Richard and The Beach Boys?

My first memory of Richard was hearing his raucous version of "Baby Face" on the radio as a kid in 1959. (I see it reached #2 in the UK.)
Four years later I heard the even more raucous flipside in a musical instrument store in my home town--at ear-splitting volume. Ooo mah soul!!
He knew how to rock. Rest in peace, sir.

Yup. Pretty much the last one... along with Don Everly, the last two living charter members of the R&R Hall Of Fame.

Only just found this out: Hillard 'Sweet Pea' Atkinson died on May 5th, aged 74. You might not realise it, but you've (probably) heard and seen him.

Yes indeed--heard, in my case, as a background vocalist on IJWMFTT (1995). He was also a member of Was (Not Was). "Do The Dinosaur" was in my '90s band's repertoire for a while. RIP, sir.

I saw Richard on some talk show circa 1995, and they quoted that line to him about being the queen of rock and roll, and he did not like that.

He was a blast to watch live and funny as hell in many interviews. There is a clip from one of those 50’s teen rock films (If I try and pull it up on YouTube and link it I’ll botch it on this phone) of Little Richard in his prime. A great piece of history as it was the days of preposterous segregation and the “white” kids are loving Richard standing at the piano making it look so easy. A true pioneer of rock and roll without question. Many thanks and RIP.

I've lost a real favorite of mine. Rusty Young died from a heart attack on 14 April, he was 75. How does that not make the news? I don't watch entertainment type news shows, they're crap. But, I shouldn't have had to hear about it on YouTube!
Coming out to the Lp public in the final days of The Springfield, Rusty got his first big chance being asked to play on "Kind Woman". Then, with Richie and Jimmy they formed Poco. I wasn't in Southern California to see their debut as Pogo. I first saw them at the Atlanta Pop II festival in July 1970. Then later that year in October at the Fillmore West in San Francisco. On the very night when Jimmy handed over the guitar reins to Paul Cotton. Both Jimmy and Paul were there that night.
Procol Harum was at Atlanta Pop II, as well. They were about to lose their guitar player soon, too. Procol Harum was the headliner, who I love, but I wanted to see Poco even more.
Back then, Rusty didn't sing or write much. He became both a great writer and singer as Poco moved thru their changes. Their big hits were after Richie left. Rusty could, though, make his steel guitar sound just like an organ. That was his first claim to fame.
A sad day this just became. rest in peace brother, Rusty.

Yahoo did have a story - and Poco has been a pretty influential group. I think that Prince Philip's passing overtook/overshadowed the rest of the news cycle. Yes, R.I.P.
