I thought this could be interesting to look at. We all know The Beach Boys have played the ‘nostalgia’ card many times since the release of Do it again. Which iteration turned out the best?
I compiled several songs that featured lyrics about beach/cars/surf from 1968 onwards. I’m sure I’m missing many so please let me know and I’ll add.
Edit- should have added summer of love. But I’m assuming that one wouldn’t make it too far in this contest anyway
Edit2- Final Rankings
1. Do It Again 2. Getcha Back 3. It’s Ok 4. Keepin’ The Summer Alive 4. Isn’t It Time 5. Still Cruisin 6. California Calling 7. It’s A Beautiful Day 8. In My Car 8. Some Of Your Love 8. Thats Why God Made The Radio
Edit3 Made a new poll to keep up permanently and added some new tracks that may perhaps qualify

While I really like DIA, It's OK, and the two songs from TWGMTR, I'm going with Getcha Back.

I voted for Getcha Back as well. I throw Do It Again in with the 60s songs. I probably would have voted for It's A Beautiful Day if it was on the list.

The poll was designed elimination style if people want to change their votes
I’m going with some of your love which has always sounded like a beach boys ripoff to me than authentic stuff
It’s a beautiful day would be a good one to add, I will put it in after the current round expires

DIA is too good and in another league. I'm going for In My Car because it's a mess.

With 2 votes each, In My Car, Some of Your Love, and TWGMTR are eliminated.
Personally I would have left the latter in for another round or two.
New poll will be up shortly for round 2

I am surprised by the votes for TWGMTR, I think it is a great song, but I guess I also don't think of it as a throwback song, maybe that is why it got the votes?

Thematically - ya. The video to go alongside it, ya. TWGMTR is a great song. Today, I voted this one (California Calling) off. I think there are stronger tracks that grab you and give you that throwback feeling with more authenticity.

The former has specific references to driving and sunshine. Isn’t it time is nostalgic but doesn’t fit the surf/cars/beach theme

Isn’t it time is nostalgic but doesn’t fit the surf/cars/beach theme It does have the concepts - but it is more lyrical - not the edgy feel you get from Do It Again. It does not have a 60's groove - almost a Caroline No feel. It is telling a story but you have to get kind of quiet to listen to it - not a "do the twist" dance groove. DIA - absolutely the best (in my opinion) throwback - with the swaggering groove.

Shouldn't this be in the throwback list?

Perhaps I should have clarified but I aimed to include songs that were throwbacks to The Beach Boys own work in the early 60s (hence the surf, beach, cars theme), not about that era in general. There are plenty of other songs that reference 50s and 60s music/culture (e.g. most of 15 BO) but that was not my intention with this thread.
It's a Beautiful Day gets the boot this round...new poll will be up shortly

I'm voting for Still Cruisin'. It's not a terrible song, but it's the weakest link here.

I believe the closest they came to doing it again after "Do It Again" was "California Calling".
barto is saying pick something since "Do It Again", then including "Do It Again" in the poll.
Nothing came even close to the wonderful of "Do It Again". That is Mike and Brian doing a
real retro groove to their pre-1966 sound.
If I was to pick others, they would be "Getcha Back" and "It's A Beautiful Day" by The Beach
Boys, but Mike's "Looking Back With Love" is a contender. Doing the solo polls at Hoffman's
got me to listening to Mike's music "again" this Summer. Say what you will about the lyrics,
and just who it was that wrote them, that song has the same swagger as "Do It Again". The
lyrics are fine with me. Mike looking to make sense of what he had gone through. Singing
from the heart, his best song since "Pitter Patter". A camp classic. This video was cleaned
up for your consideration. That look in his eye as he whispers "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" is about
priceless.

Well apparently you can’t please everyone when you whip a poll in two minutes based on a half baked idea. “Since” was inclusive, I see Do it again as the first ‘callback’ to pre-pet sounds/smile era and included it in the poll.
Going with still Cruisin again. It’s a bit drab and feels unfinished. Would have kept TWGMTR and beautiful day above it.

KTSA gets my vote, I like the song a lot, and don't think it has too much throwback to the early 60s.
