Just whimsical musings on avatars, rather than usernames. Over time, for those whose avatars are lone faces, I begin to link the images directly with the commenters. (Which is a good argument for switching to an album cover!)
So there is (but don't take too seriously):
alansmith - definitely a mid-age cheery chap with fab beard! Will/feelsflow - a little overweight with dubious dress sense barto - a bit sad, not sure could put up a fight dumdangel - young, happy, having a great time dauber - happy, carefree, but with an identity crisis
jk - bemused, good hair, but a little anachronistic autotune - neat beard, but too much botox?
dant - cheery face (like Carl) lonelysummer - serious face (like Carl) mfp - rockin'! (like Carl) me - hair blowin' in the wind (like Carl)
And those brave souls who post real pics:
John Manning - your country/forum needs you AGD - gone a little downhill after his 'Against All Odds' peak sbonilla - time shifts about: young, old, young, old, young
I could go on, but I won't. Do you have any such associations? But remember, be kind; a person's intrinsic self-belief may be attached to their avatar. 🙂

jk - bemused, good hair, but a little anachronistic Correct on all three counts! To which I would like to add aeijtzsche - behind the troubled look is a head full of joyful sounds.

I want to thank Pendlewitch for not mentioning me. Oh, was it so bad? But I didn't use the words "ch*ck*n sh*t" at all!

So - I chose Stack-O-Tracks while wishfully thinking/hoping for that release. It is a very unusual LP from the standpoint that I've always maintained that The Beach Boys slid karaoke into rock music. Who else did this regardless of the motivation for the release? I'd love to know whose idea this was, even if it was a CYA contractual release.

I have to confess to not being a brave enough soul to use my real likeness. If you’ve seen Killing Eve, you’ll recognise Kim Bodnia who plays Konstantin Vasiliev, assassin Villanelle's Russian handler. People have told him that he looks like me, so I got him to stand in. He’s my stunt double.

Yes, it's me holding a broken trumpet to my mouth. It's from 1972. I was acting a little nutty that day.

alansmith - definitely a mid-age cheery chap with fab beard! Pretty close but my wife’s description of my beard is far less than “fab”!

Not because of your comment, haha -- I made a bit of a social blunder (my speciality) and in the wake of that unfortunate episode changed avatars twice, ending up with the one you see now. Normally I never change the avatar I begin with but this was exceptional. This new one is here to stay (bar another social blunder, of course). Edit, two years overdue: No social blunder, just a change of heart. The Screamadelica cover image (cool though it was) has gone and Herr Buxtehude is back -- for good.

jk, this thread was of its time, given most people do some avatar switching as time goes by. ('Play it, Sam')
I wouldn't worry about social blundering - seems we always see a few deletions after *ahem* controversies. We even lost two from this thread, it would appear.

Those two posts by Deleted are from the same ex-poster. It wouldn't surprise me if they rejoined some time.
