Happy 73rd Birthday to David Gilmour!
You beat me to it, Sheriff. I remember Gilmour released his On an Island album on his 60th birthday in 2006 (IMO the best Pink Floyd solo album).

I wonder what this band would've done as a five piece and twin lead guitars?

Apparently, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun features both Gilmour and Barrett (though the guitar on the studio track is pretty sparse), and allegedly, they might also both appear on Corporal Clegg. I think it only would've been interesting if Syd had been well. The solo material he released in the early 70s was far inferior to what Floyd were doing at the time.

Happy 63rd Birthday to Steve Harris - founder, mastermind, bassist, and primary songwriter for Iron Maiden. Arguably the greatest bassist and songwriter in heavy metal history. He's in the conversation for best bass players of any genre really.

I never check this thread. Don't pay much attention to entertainer's birthdays, except for a few. I see just this year, I missed Michael Nesmith (but didn't miss buying his great new live at the Troubadour album), Van Dyke, even Hal and Peter, now with the dear departed band. Quite by accident, today I discovered the date of one of my very favorite player's birthday.
James Taylor. I first heard about him due to the Apple Records hype. No artist on that label was going to escape notice. I bought the record, and loved it. Soon, I got a chance to see him live, as a featured act at a rodeo (of all places - we had to sit on a two inch sawdust floor!) in Little Rock, Arkansas - 1970, and at that time he had Carole King in his backing group! That was a real treat. I had been listening to songs she wrote all through my youth, and even had the City album. I still have it. Don't know what a first pressing vinyl is worth, but I wouldn't part with it anyway. That night James talked her into doing only one song, "Up On the Roof", she was very shy about it, which was strange to me since she had been around so long. I saw James many times over the years, and after I moved to New York got to meet his brother Liv. I collect Liv's records, too. In the 2000s he promoted himself by giving free concerts, well, I'm sure he got paid by the different organizers, but they were free to the public. He always spent an hour or so after the shows talking and signing stuff for his fans. Over the course of several of these meet and greets I got lots of my records signed. I got to tell him about the first time I saw him in Shreveport, Louisiana, when he opened for Jethro Tull's Passion Play concert -he remembered it even. You'd think an artist would forget about things like that.
Anyway, this morning I was checking out the players on the Nesmith live album, and looked up Jim Cox. Turns out he played with James in 2014, and on a couple of Taylor's tours. I clicked on a link, and this is what I found: a birthday message from James.
Don't think a blue cheese burger sounds too good, myself. No cheese for me. Mushrooms, yes. And would have to be well done to get anywhere near my face!

James got together with another one of my favorite singers, and they came up with this:
Hey, he still had a full head of hair!

This one is from one of my very favorite Taylor albums, and the tour for it was one of his best.

Happy Birthday to the late, great Ronnie James Dio, one of the greatest voices in rock, who would've been 77 today
