They should work up a version of Beach Baby (First Class). It always sounded like the Beach Boys to me, and is one of my first BB-related memories. Or how 'bout Beach Boys '76? OK, maybe not.

I love the Beatles of course, and it was nice hearing 'Pieces Brothers' the first time or two, but it's been done. For quite a few years now. If the intent is to break the momentum and give the band a little vocal rest, then I understand. It's Mike's song and he can do what he wants. But..... I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that with his slightly boastful introduction of the song about hanging out with George in India in 1968 is by now a little cumbersome. Sorry to get off the premise of the thread - it's about the Mike & Bruce schedule I think. Pisces Brothers is one of those things that's really minor, but I still find myself annoyed with it being around. Mainly because I think Mike is trying to create a friendship with George that was never there. Perhaps I'm in the dark, but is there any documentation of them associating outside of Rishikesh? I'm not talking about crossing paths here and there at concerts or events, either. Mike's relationship with The Beatles reminds me of an old Simpsons episode with Dick Cavett guest starring/parodying himself. He has to remind everyone that he knows other famous people. Knowing what (little) I know about George and Mike's spirituality, they seem far apart, despite their origin point both being TM. So if any has additional information on their relationship that would fill in the blanks, I'd appreciate it.

I've had no problem with Mike including a few songs from his recent solo albums in his shows. In fact, I wish Brian had done the same. There should have been time during a two hour show for 4 or 5 Brian solo songs. Instead, we basically got a Beach Boys show.

It is more that they belong to an identifiable group or class of young and influential musicians who influenced the world. Sort of like a senior class in school. They were more in-the-same-place, at the-same-time. For lack of a better term, contemporaneous. Some from the US, others from Europe. Some whose ancestors left Europe, Scandinavia, etc., only to find themselves in the East, exploring another way of thinking. It was outside their safe bubble. They were standing still in the same place. To me it is more symbolic - the way a class photo would be. The classmates all end up going in separate directions. They might not actually be in each other's lives, but some common thread brought them together for a short time. It is more a snapshot than a full-length film. Mike is just telling a story of that snapshot-in-time, that fits, in some way, with their career timelines. Pisces Brothers tells about that snapshot.

I just bought myself a ticket for the August 30th show at the Greek theater. I know in some ways it's not going to be as intimate as the show I saw in the casino in Temecula last year.
The Greek is an exciting place to see a show but unless you're in that Orchestra pit you can't be too close to the stage. When I see Al I'm right there in the front row and can even feed him a lyric or two if he forgets, so this Mike and Bruce show experience is rather different.
I know in some ways it's going to be very lonely night, in an Uber by myself back and forth, sitting there knowing so much about the music and its history and thinking about Dave and Alan and Brian and trying to connect artistically and emotionally with the songs that don't feature Mike or Bruce to prominently.
And yet savoring every note that the skilled musicians play Because over the years I've learned to appreciate preserving the beach boy music even without my dream coming true of all five playing together.
And every moment of Mike or Bruce on that stage is a real gift and a joy. For all these reasons it seemed worth my $129 plus fees plus round trip Ubers plus 2 $25 margaritas and whatever hot dog I can find to go to The Beach Boys show in Los Angeles and be part of the event.
And I'm sure while I wait for the Uber on the way home that night of August 30th I will be reporting back here. Thank you for letting me reach out to the community with this meditation about what it will mean to me to go to that Beach Boys show.

Glad the new dates are continually being announced in addition to the tour's main lineup of dates announced a few weeks ago.
It's remarkable that the 'Boys' (not only Mike & Bruce, but all of the members and crew) can keep this show going at such an intense momentum. They were on a 'break' from Nov-Feb, but still playing private shows throughout those months somewhat regularly. Now they're embarking on another ambitious tour. Amazing. Not even to mention two of the members are in their 80's. It would be hard for most musicians of any age to keep this up. The current members of The BBs are true professionals.
Some clips are circulating from those Hawaii shows and they seemed excellent! "Sail On Sailor", "Kiss Me Baby", "Forever", and "Wild Honey" were played. Even an Elvis cover with Stamos leading the band in "Rock A Hula Baby". So I don't think the setlist will be stale like some have expressed worries about. I think these inclusions are sweet.
Excited for the shows near me this summer. I would be thrilled if more in my area were announced!

I guess I misunderstood - I thought they were going to tour the Endless Summer album this year, i.e. "Endless Summer Gold". I watched the February Hawaii video on YouTube and they're obviously playing songs that aren't songs from the Endless Summer album (which is great!) Ike has the band sounding good and his and the bands' vocals are very tight! Drummer Bolton doesn't twirl his sticks too often, does he?

My wife and I attended Saturday night's show in St. Augustine, Florida. This was my first time seeing Bolton and Wedeymeyer as part of the band, and I'd have to agree they both add a lot of 'energy' to the show. This was my first time seeing the group at this venue, and the crowd was very receptive to every song. As for 'deep cuts', we heard 'Sail on Sailor (Christian) and Wild Honey. Bolton's singing on the latter as well as Darlin' and Cal. Dreaming sounded (to me at least), a lot better than the clips we saw last year.
Mike was especially strong in his vocals and in his interactions between songs. He sang the lead on the first few uptempo songs before letting the others take the leads. He would then go on to sing the automotive classics to close the first set, as well as a few songs in the second half. Christian Love sang 'Sum, Sum, Summer' which received a pretty good response from the crowd.
As for merchandise, there were no 'Endless Summer Gold' items available, just older tour shirts plus Christian's solo album were offered. Someone posted the songs performed on setlist.fm, which is linked below. A pretty enjoyable show overall, with a lot of people sharing the joy of this great and timeless music. The band names were show on the big screen at the end of the show, including a special mention for Jeffrey Foskett. Dave Mason was not at this show, for those who were wondering.

Setlistfm says they played Summer in Paradise. Really? I thought that thing was dead and buried.

I didn't see that listed on an earlier version, but no, they did not play that one! They played Sum, Sum, Summer in that spot, so maybe the poster on FM got confused. Here's what I have from my notes:

Yeah, it's one of the songs on Christian Love's solo album. Mike introduced it as 'some new music from Christian'. I remember hearing Christian saying on a video interview somewhere that he was trying to talk his dad until letting him perform it in the show. It was pretty well received. Christian sang that song, plus God Only Knows, Good Vibes, Sail on Sailor, and a co-lead with Mike on Help Me Rhonda.

Thanks for that, Chuck. Wise decision on Mike's part there! Great song, pretty cool album all round, as I'm now discovering. Highlight so far: "Talk About The Things". christianlove1.bandcamp.com/album/only-alibis

I'm going to see Al...Jardine, that is...next weekend, so it won't bother me if Mike and Bruce don't make it up this way in 2024. It will make my year if I can get Al, Carnie and Wendy to sign some cd's for me.
