...which started as a take out food truck in Hawthorne, California announced closing their Lemoore store. I've read conflicting report as to whether it is the whole chain or just this one.
A few other food businesses have announced random closures as a result of a hike of the minimum wage to $20 an hour.

Is the Foster's Freeze on 11969 S Hawthorne Blvd. (not far from the Wilson house) closing? The one discussed here? I thought it'd already shuttered. endlessharmony.boards.net/thread/1417/more-fun?page=1&scrollTo=38339The Foster's Freeze in my town and the adjacent town is going gangbusters! No sign of them closing down.

No sign of them closing down. That looks like the original and the reports were conflicting as to whether it was the whole chain or just Lemoore, CA. It was among other fast food restaurants that announced closing and Foster's was among them.

The Fosters Freeze in Eagle Rock, which is part of the City of Los Angeles, is still going strong.

My students are about to do their field trip reports and the ones who grew up here all have their own favorit Fosters freeze locations that are thriving. The famous one, the one that is at the center of the mythology of fun fun, has been closed for a long time but I have not driven past lately to see if it's been torn down.

Visited a number of Beach Boy hotspots in 1982 and FF was one of them. We made a pretty funny video that we showed at the BB convention that year. Wish I had the video.

I remember that video and the Bay Area conventions. Hal Blaine showed up to one of them and signed his book for fans. At another they played the Desper audio tape of Dennis etc. songs which was a revelation and has now been booted. The video tape of Brian's tour of his Malibu house on the ocean, which had the fans in attendance cracking up. Dom Priore was at one of them with his Heroes Cantina tape (before it was released). Picked up some good collectibles at those conventions. And then the two San Diego ESQ BB conventions. Good times!

Wish I had known you then. Malcom Leo also filmed some bits for his BB doc that never made it to the movie. I think Derek Bill was involved, it was painful to watch as they had him try to do it over a number of times.

Mike, did you go to the first convention that was in the basement of a church in Oakland in , I think 1981 or '82? I don't remember for sure. I slept since then. I knew Les back then so I probably did. I think Les organized all of them, didn't he? Was Boyd involved with the early conventions prior to San Diego? There was one at a hotel in Emeryville, I think in '84, that I remember attending for sure and maybe one before or after that. The two conventions that I remember clearly are the two ESQ San Diego conventions in 1990 and 1992. I also remember a get-together with some Bay Area fans up at Alan Boyd's house in Oakland when he lived and heard some rare tracks there. You should have been at the fan BBQ get-together in 2019, Gerry. The Bay Area fan contingent, including Frank Holmes but minus Les and John, was well represented that day. Hopefully Pete "The Greek" Bogdanos will organize another one.

On one of my trips to LA I visited the Hawthorne Fosters Freeze. I ended up keeping my small french fry bag and taking it with me as a memento. Fast forward a few years later and I asked Al to sign it following one of his shows. I told him it was from the Hawthorne location. He looked at me like I was a bit nutty as I'm sure it was probably the first time he ever signed a french fry bag. Nonetheless, he graciously signed it and went on to tell me that when Brian had asked him to come back into the band after he had left for school, he said it was at Fosters Freeze that Brian and he had that discussion.

Yes the famous one where Brian asked Al to come back to the band and which is in the mythology of fun fun, despite the fact that there are some references to utah, that one is shuttered.
and I received some fantastic videos this very week for my students on their Beach Boy field trip. They stood in front of Fosters freeze and filmed the fence around the building and the sense of decay and loss as they, young people from Los angeles, contemplated the songs in their head and hard of the beach boys.
Can't tell you what a fantastic assignment it is as it professor to send students on this artistic musical pilgrimage to Fosters freeze and to the Beach Boys monument. Thank all of you for your continued information about these events and places and I know we're all doing our part to keep the legacy of the beach boys alive.
