Sad news. Eric was a major admirer of Brian and the Beach Boys. link

Go All The Way was one hell of a rocker of a song. I was a fan. RIP.

Eric used the BBs for BV on several tunes. There is a great interview out there somewhere about how this went down. His last released recording- Brand New Year- was done with BW's band in 2013. Somewhere there is video of him in the studio recording this.

Always loved his track "Make Me Lose Control". The acapella tag near the end of the song was a dead ringer homage to the Beach Boys' sound. Also got to see him perform live once when he toured with Ringo's band and he was a highlight of that show.

I'm not too familiar with his music (and not at all with that of Raspberries) but I do know and love this one. May he rest in peace.

On a plane with Eric going to back to his hometown of Cleveland in the late 80's. His career had revitalized with Hungry Eyes and Make Me Lose Control. My work associate knew Eric because his brother had played drums in one of Carmen's bands. Called him "Rick" which was the name Carmen used early in his career. My memory was seeing all the girls (groupies?) surround him in baggage claim. He was enjoying the attention very much.
Great songwriter. Great vocalist. Extremely underrated. May he rest in peace.

This was posted today on Al Jardine's Facebook group page. I don't remember hearing this before. It rivals Timothy B. Schmitt's cover!

One of my all time Eric Carmen songs with the Euclid Beach Band, amazing Beach Boys influence.

Overnight Sensation was a massive staple of Pennine Radio which I listened to a heck of a lot in my preteens. In fact, I suspect that the only two records the station owned at the time were Overnight Sensation, and Layla by Derek and the Dominoes. It’s high up on my “formative years” playlist but I didn’t know Eric Carmen was behind both that and All By Myself, another great song. RIP, Eric C (not, but rhymes with Clapton).

Here is a link to the 45. I can't figure out how to embed the image. It was written by R. Reising - J. Girard. Produced by Eric Carmen.

Thanks, Matt. Here you go: This is how it works. I googled the string "there's no surf in cleveland" and then went to <images>. I then clicked on the image of the 45 (45cat) and right-clicked "Open Image in New Tab". I then copied and pasted the new tab's URL (https://images.45cat.com/euclid-beach-band-theres-no-surf-in-cleveland-1978-12.jpg) into my "reply" post, clicked on the image logo just right of the little envelope at the top of the reply and pasted it in. My description probably makes it look complicated but really it's very easy. This post may help (the bit about uploading images): endlessharmony.boards.net/post/60603/thread

Well this sucks big time. Love his debut solo album…still have my older brother’s original from 1975. I love the opening track, Sunrise. Reminds me of my brother every time I play it. It reminds me of my youth. That album reminds me of my family and my second older brother as well. I lost both of those brothers in the mid to late 2000’s. That album was played a lot in my house when I was a teenager and especially in Summer. That album reminds me of Summer and The Beach Boys. Eric Carmen ST, Beach Boys Endless Summer and Spirit of America were in constant rotation on our family console stereo in the mid 70’s. Other great albums were as well but those three in particular cause a flood of memories when I think about them.
Eric was for the most part retired no doubt but he was still here in this world. Now he is not. Eric Carmen, Mary Weiss, Melinda Wilson all gone and it’s barely March…plus Brian’s diagnosis. All part of the circle of life I guess but it’s just going by too quickly.
RIP Eric. I hope you felt the Sunrise.
