Just recounting this story for the uninitiated. It's a story that Alice Cooper told about John Lennon and Brian Wilson: “I was sitting backstage after the 1974 Grammys with Bernie Taupin (Elton John’s lyricist) and John Lennon. This was when Brian was really having some mental issues,” said Cooper. “During the course of the conversation, I kept seeing Brian out of the corner of my eye, just kind of staring at us from different angles.” “Finally, he came up to the table, bent down and whispered in my ear ‘Hey Alice, introduce me to John Lennon.’ I couldn’t BELIEVE that these two men had never met! They were virtually neck and neck in the 60’s as the greatest bands on the planet, and I’m SURE they must have crossed paths at some point. But then I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I’m going to be the one to introduce them and become a part of rock history!’” “So I merely said, ‘Brian Wilson, this is John Lennon. John Lennon, this is Brian Wilson.’ Lennon was very cordial and polite, saying things like ‘Hello Brian, I’ve always wanted to meet you. I’ve always admired your work, and Paul and I considered Pet Sounds one of the best albums ever made.’ Brian thanked him and walked away, at which point Lennon went right back to his conversation like nothing had happened.” “About ten minutes later, Brian came by our table again, leaned down and whispered something to Bernie, and all of a sudden, Bernie was saying ‘Brian Wilson, this is John Lennon. John Lennon, Brian Wilson.’ Lennon was just as cordial and polite as the first time, saying essentially the same thing about always wanting to meet him. As soon as Brian walked away, John looked at both of us and casually said in his typical Liverpudlian accent, ‘I’ve met him hundreds of times. He’s not well, you know.’” We were impressed by John’s empathy and kindness in dealing with Brian and thankful that Brian has found some mental stability following tumultuous times.

There's another story of Brian and John being at a party around 1974 that May Pang describes. And I think Mickey Dolenz describes the same meeting in his book. If nobody here posts it first, I look for it. I've used up my allotted posting time here today. And of course the telephone exchange between the two about hair or whatever it was in 1964....

Yeah that story has been circulating around for awhile. My memory is hazy but I think years later during Brian's release of 𝐼𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 he was being interviewed by Lennon’s son Sean who asked Brian if he had ever met his father. To which I believe Brian responded that he hadn't. 🤦

Well…it’s not surprising Brian doesn’t recall 1974 very well….definitely not his best period

Well…it’s not surprising Brian doesn’t recall 1974 very well….definitely not his best period I think Brian was putting them on. Listening to Brian's radio interview with Jim Pewter in August 1974, you can tell Brian was very coherent with a good sense of humor. He mighta been doing a couple of lines before the interview, but he sure seemed totally with it then!

May Pang from her book: "I don't remember Brian hanging out with us that much. Brian, we saw a couple of times. We saw him once at this birthday party…in fact, that was the first time that we had seen him. I think it was for Ricci Martin - I'm talking about Dean Martin's son - it was like his 21st birthday or something. I remember seeing this guy - and this was at a time when he was really heavy - and I saw him coming towards us and went, "Oh my God". And I whispered under my breath, as I did quite often with John, "The man that's about to come over to us is Brian Wilson. Remember, we saw Dennis Wilson, his brother, the other day? This is Brian…Beach Boy". And John turned around and he was like, "Ohhh". Just as Brian was about to speak, John spun around and said, "Hi Brian". And you could see this look in Brian's eyes as he said, "Hey man, you have any reds?" John looked at him and said, "Don't do that stuff, sorry man". And he walked away. That's where Brian was at that moment in time."

Mickey Dolenz:
“My last experience with LSD was at a Malibu beach house in the company of Harry Nilsson, Brian Wilson, John Lennon, et al. With those participants, you'd think it would have been a stimulating, inspiring occasion. Unfortunately, it was not. A bathrobed Wilson rushed over to the party after learning John Lennon was there. Harry went off into his own world; Brian, who was already long-gone even at that time, played just one note on a piano, repeating four bars over and over again. An impatient Lennon said, “All right Brian, we got that part. Let’s go on to the bridge.” Then John stood and stared into a swimming pool for four hours.

In the mid-'70s when Lennon was living in L.A., he often said he would leave his television set on all day and night, getting inspiration for song ideas from images he'd see. There was a place in L.A. called "Wilson's House Of Suede", with two brothers who did the TV commercials. So John's in the Troubadour or wherever it was, half-blind from not having his glasses and half-incapacitated from alcohol and whatever else. Dennis Wilson approaches him, all excited to meet Lennon.
"Hi John, I'm Dennis Wilson."
(Squinting) "Yeah... from the House Of Suede, right?"
Dennis walked away, somewhat offended. Supposedly, Lennon was genuinely confused, and was embarrassed when he realized his mistake.

All the differing accounts still are in agreement that Brian and John met but if the May Pang version is accurate Brian may not have even known that was John on that occasion. I certainly could believe the story Mickey Dolenz told but it would mean Brian took acid in 1974, when he has stated that it was only on a few occasions in the 1960s….if both stories are true than Brian really blocked out a lot….but there is some corroboration for that-in the 1990s Brian was asked about making MIU and claimed that he had no memory of being at MIU -he admitted that he had a black out about the whole experience-so maybe he has a lot of holes in his 1970s memories

Ricci Martin's birthday, which would have been September 20, 1974. It is for sure that Brian was doing a lot of coke during this time and I'm sure he has done acid more times than he has let on.

I'm going to say just one thing, and I apologize for it in advance.
Micky Dolenz.
Not Mickey. Micky.
And before anyone else says it, Davy Jones. Not Davey.

At least I always use the correct spellings of Murray and Audrey Wilson and Jack Reilly and Glenn Campbell.

I was looking for the entire sound bite from.....I think it was a radio promo in 1964 with Brian and John and maybe George. I see a brief clip of it on YouTube, but not the entire thing. They were commenting on haircuts I think......with a DJ.

Brian during this period 1972-1975, someone should write a book. At the time when these type of stories were showing up, sometimes in Rolling Stone in the Random Notes section , they were very entertaining. Now, maybe not so much. I don't think we knew the extent of Brian's drug use, and how much of it was mental illness starting to peek it's ugly head up from under the covers. Of course we don't know how accurate these stories are, I doubt they would stand up in a court of law. They did however add to Brian's legend, for better or worse.

Well I think he spent a lot of his days in his room in the 1972-75 period but obviously people exaggerate-like saying he spent all his time in his room-he did go out sometimes clearly-but he was not being a productive member of the BBs
