It sounds like the air's been sucked out of it - like those Jackson Browne acoustic live albums, Steely Dan's Alive in America, and, for that matter, the Randy Newman solo (though not 'live') paino albums where he runs through a selection of his songs. I used to have a boot of the Pet Sounds tour which was better.
I got Volume 1 of the Jackson Browne live and liked it. Listened to the Vol.2 and passed.
He's a strange cat going in putting new vocals on old songs for his Hits packages. To me
Jackson had his day in the seventies, and he was great. Lost interest with all his political
stands. Have his old Disney channel Going Home Special on DVD, which I enjoy very
much.
Agree on the dodgy
Alive in America. I find their boots much more interesting. The live
DVD from Sony Studios is great, and so is The Dukes of September DVD, but for that one
you also need boots for all the songs they decided not to pay to use.
I bought all of those Randy Newman "live" solo discs as a box. I love Randy. Have his
live shows on DVD. The one at The Odeon is fantastic, and I watch his Live in London
about once a year. I don't think Randy made any uninteresting albums. I'm a major fan.
Have Deluxe versions of many of his albums.
See a theme? I like to watch stuff on DVD if there is a choice. Brian's Band is great on
Pet Sounds Live. You are right about the boots being a better representation of the shows.
I want that first set on this and the SMiLE Live sets, too.
Pet Sounds Live - aren't these doctored like most (all) of the rest of Brian's live releases.
Must say I really enjoyed it when I saw a Pet Sounds concert. That was better than this.
I got the Cd first and later the DVD. I watch the DVD about once a year, it is far from my
favorite of his live shows on DVD. But like I say, the band is great, and Brian sings these
classic songs best he can.
