Never noticed this before, and like I said I have had a digital copy of LONG PROMISED ROAD since 1999: LA Light Album LP (1979): 03-The Beach Boys-Full Sail : 3:28 LADY LYNDA / FULL SAIL Single (1979): 02-The Beach Boys-Full Sail : 3:28 Long Promised Road (1999): 04-The Beach Boys-Full Sail : 3:30 LA Light Album CD (1991): 03-The Beach Boys-Full Sail : 2:56 MIU/LA Light Album CD (2000): 03-The Beach Boys-Full Sail : 2:58
Carl Wilson I Can Hear Music CD (2002): 12-The Beach Boys-Full Sail : 2:58
Longer fade on LPR which equals the original LP and single.

Longer fade on LPR which equals the original LP and single. Wow. That's a pretty significant chunk that was excised. I'm cool with 5 seconds or so, but a full half minute??

Yeah, I know. They faded it early. I never paid attention to it. I ripped my LPR CD last night and was comparing it to the I CAN HEAR MUSIC CD. I noticed how much shorter it was so I looked at all of the other versions I had on CD and vinyl. It fades early on the "fade", but I like the longer version. Goes with the flow of the song. Wonder why they did that. Couldn't be an issue with the tape, otherwise the 1999 LPR could not have been done. Maybe the digital copy they used in 1991 and 2000 has that fade. I would have hoped Andrew would have noticed that and fixed the issue.

Longer fade on LPR which equals the original LP and single. Quick question: is the longer runtime on the LPR cd based on an actual timed listen, or just a perusal of the label? An old friend of mine from the business once told me that runtimes were often exaggerated on labels for compensation purposes. Looking back, it might have even been my discovery of this Full Sail discrepancy that sparked that conversation…. Thanks. Edit: I see you did listen. Interesting & thanks.

Then I played it thru my wav editor. The I Can Hear Music version is from the 2000 MIU/LA CD.

For all of the new fans, don't think we oldies know it all. We are discovering the new along with you. Hey, we didn't find out about the lyrics for the second verse of GOOD VIBRATIONS until 2011!

Hey, we didn't find out about the lyrics for the second verse of GOOD VIBRATIONS until 2011! I think I first heard it on the 1976 radio special, "Best Summer Of Our Lives". Then there were the bootlegs.....

Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now Softly smile, I know she must be kind When I look in her eyes She goes with me to a blossom world WE FIND

Ah, yes, according to Mike Love, his original line was, "she goes with me to a blossom world we find", but Brian cut off the last two words to highlight the bass track linking into the chorus. I never knew this until the 2012 reunion tour, where Jeff Foskett(?) surprisingly sang the line with all the words intact on a couple three concert dates.

In 2011, there was a series of videos (sort of a podcast) about the SMiLE release in which Mike speaks about that line.

Longer fade on LPR which equals the original LP and single. The original LP and single are 2:56, just like the CD releases. It's mislabeled, just like several other track times on LA. I have them and just double checked. The only way to full fat Full Sail freedom is on 99 LPR.

They must have made the cut during mastering. I could understand saying the track was longer than the actual running time for $$$, but the fact that the run time listed IS the run time of the track on LPR is kind of weird.

It is weird - in fact, it's a lot like the Sumahama situation, where the original LP and UK single cut it down substantially. Only difference is that the full one later showed up as a b-side in the states and became the defacto CD release.

Christian Love sings Good Vibrations these days. Maybe there's a YouTube video with him singing it.

Christian sang the "we find" part at the show I attended in 2023.

Yeah, Christian's singing it here, which I'm sure pleases his Dad. And I'll mention it here again, according to Mike, his original line was, "she goes with me to a blossom world we find", but Brian cut off the last two words to highlight the bass track linking into the chorus. It sounds OK here though but I never thought the two words fit anyway:
