First exposure to the BBs was during the mid-70s. My brother had Endless Summer; I had the Beatles red and blue LPs. Over subsequent years the focus gradually shifted to hard rock. Around autumn 1990, a friend began urging me to give Pet Sounds a listen -- to which I would reply, "Thanks but...no. Endless Summer is all the Beach Boys I ever need to hear." After months of persuasive attempts, he threw his hands up and said, "Look, just try ONE FREAKING SONG! Three minutes out of your life, and you'll probably love the music!" He popped the Pet Sounds CD into the car stereo and out of the speakers came "Hang On To Your Ego."
These days, the focus is on various versions of study/compilation playlists, tweaked as unreleased material sees daylight, typically organized by date of a composition's initial recording. An invaluable resource for such compilations is the 10452 sessions data, often consulted and greatly appreciated.
Much gratitude to my friend for his insistence that I might enjoy BBs music beyond Endless Summer. He was so right.
Currently compiling a Blondie/Ricky arc.
