I know many of you have already read this book at least once but mine was a recent Christmas present and a couple of things have really stood out to me.
1. Jim goes beyond anything I've read (that is published and marketed) to make it clear he is trying to get as close to the truth as possible without inserting his own assumptions or bias. I really appreciate that.
2. Even tough I have read many books and articles on the BB's, even fanatics like us can forget and need a reminder of how incredibly it began. Stories like this really stir the chance vs destiny debate. I'm leaning towards destiny.
3. Either I had forgotten, or never knew Brian was already working with others (non-family) both producing and recording right out of the gate.
4. All of the people that we may or may not have heard of that played what you would think is a trivial role in those first two years is remarkable. Example...Jodi Gable. I'm sure I have heard the name but Jim's book makes sure it is one you will now remember.
5. The record making process from the physical side of the pressing plant and so on....fascinating....AND the fact that Brian took Judy Bowles there to see it with him in a state of pride. (yet some people would have you believe Brian never cared about the commercial end of the music business)
6. The personalities of the BB's.... conflict and all was there before day 1. What unfolded in the mid to later 60's was nothing you would NOT expect when you have that early frame of reference.
7. The photo's and documents from Jim's collection. Thanks for sharing and for making me a little bit.... jealous!
If you are like me and don't always rush into all things new concerning the BB's....time to get your hands on this book.
