Around the 18 minute mark, Al tells about the end of the documentary where they all got together with an Acoustic Guitar and sang a few songs all together 'acapella' at Paradise Cove. He mentions 'Fun Fun' Fun' and 'Surfin Safari'.... Let's hope it makes the cut. I wonder exactly when such a gathering would have occurred. They certainly kept the cat in the bag about when it happened, just imagine the fanfare if people found out? Just the same, how would your luck be just hangin' round at the 'Cove', and the original Beach Boys came strolling on by? So many questions... How much time did they spend together? Was it scripted? Did they actually enjoy themselves? Hopefully those filming utilized the moment, because there surely wont be another quite like it. It's the part I'm waiting to see the most, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up to much about it. Brian... What condition and mood was he in? Al on acoustic guitar, but not David? Strange for sure, when Dave is the superior player. Maybe we will see some promo shots from it before the release!

Don't see Dave or Bruce mentioned at all and all the information is well known and repeats of past stuff right? Also these interviews with different musicians saying unbelievably obvious things does not bode well. Andrew, what are you and the great Scholars here think, because I'm completely unimpressed by this trailer.

It's a two and a half minute trailer. Personally, I'm more than done with Don Was giggling as he tells me something I've already known for decades but that aside, it looks good... and remember, 90% of this will be new to Joe Q. Public.
I'm waiting to see the whole thing before passing further comment.

CANT WAIT!! LOOKS WELL DONE!!!! Love the new interview footage shown of Alan and Mike!!
A little dissapointed about all the 'talking heads' and the trailer making it seem like it's just the same old retelling of the 60's story again... Brian did IT FIRST, bikinis, Murray was mean...
But I am still very happy!!
I have hope!!! The fact that they're calling it DEFINITIVE and the trailer specifically mentioned SIX DECADES gives me hope the movie will tell the whole story!!
I guess they always try to hook people in with the fun, summer vibes... TWGMTR was marketed more with the "we're back!" "Beaches! Cars! Summer!" songs and vibes than the reflective, moody stuff... Even the Sail On Sailor boxset trailer focused on the well known upbeat songs of that era (Marcella and the title track) and making the band look 'cool'.
It is a no brainer to hook people in with the surfy Americana nostalgia aspect and then get a chance to tell the whole story from 61-present day, and include Bruce, David, Blondie, and Ricky's stories as well as the OGs.
I am still, as always, so excited about new BBs product! And even more excited because I'm a huge Disney fan!!
Even if the movie just hits the same classic beats as American Band and EH did, I'll still be happy with a new well done BBs flick. Just because it's a story we as diehards have heard a gazillion times doesn't mean its not a classic timeless once in a lifetime, uniquely American and Californian tale. For possibly thousands if not millions of people, this could be their introduction to that amazing story.
I'm sure even if it's like AB and EH (Early Surf Days--Top Pop Band--Brian's Decline/Carl & other's rising role--Brian'sBack!--80's Revival!) it'll still be very well done from what the trailer looks like.
Since the SIX DECADES were mentioned, I was hoping more 80's-2024 videos or pictures would be shown, and some music post-PS... But like I said, it's understandable to hook people in with what the world recognizes as the classic image of The BBs with their biggest hits.
Not gonna lie, I'm not SUPER excited to hear Don Was and the other celebs again pontificate about the band. I wanna hear the juicy story and real details!! Of the whole six decades. Not just "Oh Brian's a genius! He does it ALL!" same Derek Taylor shtick we've always heard since the mid 60's.
Sorry if this reads like stream of conciousness rambling. these were just the thoughts as they came to me!!!! I'm very excited for their Paradise Cove reunion. May 24 can't come quick enough for me!!

Looks like it'll be good. In the same vein as as 'An American Band', 'Endless Harmony', and 'Wouldn't It Be Nice'. Quite a few clips previously shown, and a few I haven't seen before. I always liked the clip with the three brothers, circa 1976, in what I think was recorded in Brother Studio(?). The one on the trailer might be an outtake or an extension of the one shown previously in the American Band video. I think I read once that there were two or three takes of "I'm Bugged At My Old Man".

The trailer is what I expected.
It will be similar to the book. I won't be expecting anything too controversial. The Beach Boys are a brand that the new image holders are trying to protect and promote. It will probably be similar to Endless Harmony. Bruce will talk about the brilliant Wilson and Love songwriting team etc.
I was mostly concerned that there wasn't a clip of Brian talking recently. That would be a shame if he doesn't feature much. I suspect he might not.

Trailer looks fine. I'm still more interested in what the forthcoming soundtrack has to offer (if anything at all).

Don Was talking about anything other than his actual historical interactions with the group is a waste of viewers' time at this point; I'll go even further and say anyone who knows who Don Was, Lindsey Buckingham and Janelle Monae are don't need have to have the fundamentals of the Beach Boys' appeal explained to them.
Is the Marilyn interview new?

It's a solid trailer. I don't expect it to be the definitive story, but I don't believe any single documentary or book about artist can really be definitive. That's my conclusion after watching a lot of music documentaries and reading a lot of music bios over the last few years. I think if you want to know the story of an artist, you have to read and see as much as you can and draw your own conclusions.
That said, I do think some biographies can be higher quality and more close to objective than others (Peter Guralnick's Elvis bio and Mark Lewisohn's Tune In, for example). I thought Thom Zimny's Elvis documentary (The Searcher) was pretty good and it was what got me into Elvis, so hopefully this will be on par, quality-wise, and will create some new fans.
I'm most excited to see high-quality footage of the group from the 60s and 70s. I hope they don't try the AI upscaling thing that was done for the Beatles Get Back since that looked terrible to me. Doesn't seem like it from the trailer though.
Do we know the runtime yet?

I have been so buried in school work so pardon me if I missed a beat, but wasn't the production or the direction here supposed to be by the same group that brought us the Searcher the Elvis documentary? Cuz the feeling of what I saw in this trailer is nothing at all remotely like the searcher. The talking heads approach is so overdone as to be disastrous and completely vacuous. No mention of Bruce or of Dave and no intellectual or emotional depth whatsoever in that trailer.

So I guess this was our last hope for an in depth, multi-part Beach Boys documentary, ala The Beatles Anthology. The Beatles did it right. Other than George Martin and Neil Aspinall, and ...was Derek Taylor in it too?...they didn't rely on David Byrne and a bunch of Talking Heads to tell the story. They told it themselves. Even where they disagreed, we got all three - sometimes four - perspectives. I don't need to see Don Was, Sean Lennon, Jackson Browne, whoever they round up, to tell the story. The one time I thought that was handled well was in IJWMFTT. I enjoyed the contributions of Crosby and Nash, Buckingham, etc in that one. Otherwise, they just annoy me.

Lonely summer old friend I'm afraid that you've got it right. The entire historical and analytical content of every word said by each of the guest speakers in this trailer adds up to absolutely nothing new and nothing of any substance. "They did it first" and other ridiculous cliches. Staged and unspontaneous and contrived and too cute by half.

Shoulda had a bearded Dennis in the poster to be consistent with the others during that late 70's timeframe.

So Dave is omitted from the faces on the top but he's supposed to be on the truck at Paradise cove? Why can't they just be honest about the history.

This is it? This is the so called great documentary preview?j Disgusted in fact, everything I was hoping this one wouldn't be, seems to be covered with it. Those Fucking! Talking Heads! Who gives a Fuck! what they have to say!? Don't they get it? It's been done to death and most people are over it! I thought Iconic was going to do something new and lead the group into new territory. They are doing nothing here that hasn't been done, yet they feel like they deserve such a pat on the back. From what has been presented in the trailer, it's an 'American Band' and 'Endless Harmony' copycat job. Why wouldn't you entirely feature The Beach Boys individuals to promote a documentary about themselves? I don't get it! Not even one modern interview bite from Brian! Seriously? Perhaps it's about time for me to hang up my fandom with this group, with all of these disappointing releases since Iconic took over, and this one is not giving me 'good vibes' either... What a shame... I feel gutted what they are doing to my favorite band.
