Just a short introduction from a long-time lurker. I’ve been a UK fan since 1981 when I came across the Jan and Dean Deadman’s Curve biopic. My brother said, “hey if you like J&D then you’ll love The Beach Boys”. My first albums were In Concert ’73 and the “yellow” double album 1962-1965. Things really got going when I picked up Ten Years of Harmony and followed up on the BB Stomp address on the back cover. A fallow few years of band activity was spent catching up on the back catalogue and the joy of each annual Stomp convention. First books to support my education were Tobler, Preiss, Leaf and Elliot.
My first concert was Wembley ’87 and is still probably the fondest concert memory. Disappointment was just missing that UK ’80 tour with all six band members. I’ve been a fan collecting ever since and enjoy, and have an interest, in all eras/aspects of the band.

Hello LL ☺️ Greetings from a fellow Brit and chronic lurker, I should post more but never find the time 😂 So cool that you have followed the band for that long. Look forward to hearing more from you here.

Welcome, littleleila. I had this feeling it was just a matter of time before you joined in. You could well be our most faithful lurker.

Welcome, littleleila. Have a look around. Plenty of stuff to discover, including book writers. Ian Rusten and Jon Stebbins wrote a great one on their concerts called simply In Concert. Ian helps with info at AGD's bellagio site and also has his own updates to his book site. In Concert book will help you to learn about some of the shows you missed.
You'll also find other Jan & Dean fans.

A belated welcome to the EH Forum, Leila! I've seen your alias on the board from time to time but haven't seen you post a message until now. The '73 In Concert album is one of my favorites, and my favorite era as a Beach Boys fan.

Hi All, Thanks for all your kind words of welcome. Yes, “In Concert” was a strange place to start that is for sure. Got it at the Virgin Megastore on Tottenham Court Road which was the place to go in London way back when. Not sure why I went for that album, but I didn’t really have any sort of reference for where to start. In hindsight though, I would agree, a good choice. Like many of you, this is my favorite period for the band as well.

Ha. I guess it's the way these things work. As an inveterate supporter of studio versions of everything, I decided to give the 1973 In Concert double album a spin on YouTube while cleaning my computer desk and its clutter. I've just heard "Let The Wind Blow" and the desk's clean and neat now so I'll carry on listening tonight. I've heard some live things in the past (on GV30 and elsewhere) and was embarrassed at times. But this set really cooks! My favourite until now is the simply stunning take on "Leaving This Town". Would that be Billy or Carli on organ solo? Goodness. I can also understand why there are many who prefer the 1973 live take on "Funky Pretty" to the studio version. More tonight! In the meantime, thank you, LL, for bringing up the subject in the first place! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_Boys_in_Concert
