Any other Curtis fans out there? I was first exposed to his music watching the movie Superfly. The soundtrack has become a regular in my listening rotation.
The instrumental 'Think' has always felt kind of Pet Sounds-y to me...probably the french horn and oboe (starts 1:00 in)-

Lovely instrumental! And a good call for a thread. My favourite track by Mr Mayfield solo is "Move On Up". But I remember him best from his work in the mid '60s with The Impressions: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Impressions

I had heard Impressions records, but I first noticed his name in 1965, when I was 11. My mom sent me Major Lance's Greatest Hits in a gift pak of records. I remember likening Curtis to Brian; he produced and wrote all the songs. I was impressed by that. I dug Major Lance's singing, dance moves and pointy shoes (Shindig was watched religiously), but I wanted to be more like Curtis (and Brian), writing songs and producing them. That was the year I started writing music.
I liked the fact that Curtis was a guitar player, too. I have a special regard for RnB artists/composers who played guitar: Bobby Womack, Babyface, Ike Turner, Prince.
