I bought one of these from e-bay a few weeks ago as a Christmas present to me from my kids!
I just opened it tonight and was gutted to find there was NO signed postcard from Al. Has anyone else had this issue?
The vinyl looks pristine, unplayed. The record was still sealed and looked to be genuine. On other people's versions, where was the postcard placed? Also, some of the font looks fuzzy (the back cover art and the "Recorded at Red Barn Studios..." bit on the inside of the gatefold under the song info). Is this the same on all the other copies out there? The pictures aren't particularly great either. Is this just because the artwork has been blown up for the LP?
Who should I contact about getting a signed postcard?
Thank for any info!

John, the seller is: aghartarecords. 100% positive feedback on 1105 transactions! I just watched a video on youtube of someone opening a signed version and I could read the font better than my own copy! I wouldn't have thought anyone would try to bootleg an Al Jardine LP. It looks like a photocopied copied cover. I will wait and see what folks here say and then contact the seller. I hope you have better luck! Edit: I'm listening to the vinyl just now and it sounds great! Definitely better than my 'butcher' Yesterday and Today fake LP, which, by the way, has a similar 'fake' looking cover as the Postcards LP!

Mike - Friday Music has the following contact info on their website: QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS Online Help: fridaymusic.com/help/Email Us: orders@musictoday.com Call Us: (877) 687-4277 U.S. (434) 205-7049 International M-F 9am - 6pm ET I wouldn't be worried about someone bootlegging the disc at this point... But I did see on eBay a couple of sellers who were pulling the postcard out and selling it separate from an "open" copy of the vinyl. An original sealed copy of the record should have a barcode on a white sticker outside the shrink wrap, at the bottom left of the back corner, that reads: 8 29421 40900 7 I have two copies, and on both of them the seam of the shrink wrap is not on the very top, but is about half an inch from the top on the upper back cover -- but this could vary copy-to-copy. Cheers, Lee

Cheers, Lee Hi Lee, Thank you for that info. The shrink wrap on mine is exactly as you describe. It also has the barcode so it seems to be genuine enough. I've may have just been unlucky and someone has forgot to put the postcard in before sealing! I guess Friday Music should be the next port of call. Thanks again, Mike.

Mike - the artwork is a bit “soft”/fuzzy on the LP.
My guesses are: -original artwork res was sized for CD dimensions and not precisely resized - or the original artwork took into account the digipack cardboard and any bleed factors (sci fi theory) - or the pirates not only nicked Al’s grandpa’s Sloop, but they swiped the slicks as well and the record company had to reassemble from webpage screen shots
Actually, the front cover looks (slightly) more stylised/paintingish than the CD, so not a bad result.
The postcard was intact inside the sleeve.
I got mine sent from a SoCAL record store thanks to a much appreciated tip from a bloody amusing old friend.

I don't know, I'm still waiting my copy. But, I had a bad experience on ebay years ago when I bought a Beatles stereo boxset of 9 cds... I thought it was original... when it arrived I knew there was something wrong, pictures weren't detailed, gatefold cds were broken and.... when I read the credits there was a big surprise, all Beatles names were typed wrong, like Faul McCartney, Pingo Starr and so on... So check the names if everything is correct. I was totally pissed off!!!

Hopefully you'll have better luck with Postcards. Mike.

Mine arrived yesterday (5 days early) and is fine other than a dink in the top right corner of the sleeve - which is understandable given the distance it’s travelled – and a worn out edge on the inner sleeve, which is odd and regrettable. I’ll check the disc’s condition once the kids are in stasis.
Signature’s super big and clear on a postcard slipped into the LP compartment of the gatefold.
Agree that the artwork suffers slightly for being upscaled but it ain’t too bad.
Overall I’m happy this far.
Hope you get satisfaction over the missing postcard Mike; given the price and cost of shipping, Al ought to bring it to your door personally!

That's good it arrived early John, and had the signed postcard. Enjoy your listen, it sounds good! If Al turns up in person, I'll see if he'll do one of his solo shows here in the UK! Cheers.

Sounds great! btw, the blue vinyl is pretty quiet and well pressed.
For me, Side 1 has a very encapsulated feel, definitely “heavy” concept album worthy due to a flavour of Steinbeckian gravitas. Side 2 provides a great freewheelin’ laid back more contemporary kind of take on California.
Not a major fan of the last song, but I think it’s well placed and provides a kind of spiritual ending to our scant time in Al’s musical universe.

Friday Music got back to me to say there was nothings they could do as I didn't buy from there vendor. In the UK, if there's a problem the manufacturer is liable under consumer protection legislation. Therefore I would have assumed it was the same in the US? The eBay seller says he got it from Alliance, an International Distributor for RSD. He said he didn't even know it had a signed postcard inside.

Mike, if you put your story on Al's Facebook page (preferably a message first), I'll betcha that you'll get a response from one of Al's people if not Al himself. That's what I'd do as a last resort. Ask him to sign a postcard and send it to you and call it a day. These vinyl albums ain't cheap and the record stores around where I live (the 2 or 3 brick & mortars that carried them) sold out the same day or day after Record Store Day. And you bought that LP thinking you were gonna get an autographed card from Al but didn't. I'm sure Al would sympathize and drop a postcard in the mail to you. Wouldn't hurt to try!

My understanding of U.K. consumer law is that the vendor is responsible for goods sold. Manufacturers will frequently cover most cases to protect their own reputations and those of their products, but by law it’s up to a retailer to ensure the goods they sell are fit for purpose, in good condition, etc etc.

I just want to hear this album. I see that Amazon says in February they're going to have the MP3 of the album. Right now they're selling C d's for anywhere between 40 and $180. I lost my copy somehow a few years ago and I really love the album and it's perfect to listen to when he drive up the coast so I'm looking forward to seeing it available on streaming again. Sorry for all the difficulties some of you are having with the vinyl

Does this new vinyl release have the 3 bonus tracks? I have the downloaded MP3 version which does not. I've always been curious to hear what "Waves Of Love" sounds like.
