3am, and Brian is still up watching for shooting stars. Wondering what his baby is doing tonight, if she is thinking about him.
"The Night Was So Young" is more a sigh than sadness. The clouds will move on, the moon will peek back out. Don't worry, Brian. I've seen the future. Everything's going to work out okay. You're gonna get some 10/10 votes.

Hearing and seeing Brian playing part of this on piano from 2000 just cemented for me what a gem of a song this is.
A shining 10.

Well, I've just gone through a box of tissues (from cryin', thanks Brian), I hope the rest of you haven't done too much damage to your end of the world COVID-19 stashes.
Your ratings for The Night Was So Young are:
0 - 1 vote (ah, come on!) 4 - 1 5 - 1 7 - 1 8 - 2 9 - 2 10 - 9!!!
We welcome and applaud all opinions here - I would love to read the perspectives of those who voted 0 or below 5, as much as those who offered scores. In the case of this song, perhaps the truth behind the lyrics was too much for some to bear or mentally picture - the pain will ease over time, believe me!

Welcome back, Thrill seekers, today we ponder "I'll Bet He's Nice", an immediate follow-up or continuation of mood, emotion and subject matter.
Is this song about the same couple depicited in TNWSY as yearning lovers seperated by time and space, now seperated by the presence of another?
Is there really a problem at hand, or does Carl's tender middle eight suggest the verses are unfounded thoughts of abandonment and defeatist inferiority, and that his Sunshine flower will never leave?
Questions, questions - what is without question is the amaze-ballsness of a very avant garde track that perhaps pioneers some new sounds and quite edgy timings/beats. The Wilson brothers gruff dueting on the chorus is an inspired touch, balanced with Carl's angelic plea. The group vocals are to die for, and the extra touch of our much missed buddy, Bruce (and his shorts) caps another breathtaking moment on this divine LP.
10.

Yes, I love the way side 2 is laid out. Really nice flow. A Great post, Alan.
Let me think about what to say I haven't said two times before, and I will
be back tomorrow. I ticked the 10 box.

Turns out the previous track wasn't a fluke.... a beautiful follow-up and to me all-deserving of a 10. I think the production on this one is the finest of the album...not too crowded and gives space for the harmonies and synths to breathe and play off another. Terrific track, to me this and TNWSY are reminiscent of the more Pet Sounds-inspired style and absolutely the peaks of the album for me

Beautiful track, really heartbreaking lyrics, though the two don’t initially match - the synth is light and playful, but like the glockenspiel/blocks/whatever in Good Time. But the intensity intensifies (as it would…) and becomes rich and troubled.
I’d say more but gotta go on marmalade deliveries.

Oh the power. When the Wilson brothers walked into a room together, magic sunflowers lifted their heads towards the sun.
Don't believe I've said that before, or at least not in the same way within the same day.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but I think this is average at best. 4. Needs those Pete power chords buried in the mix to give it more sparkle.

With kds here. Used to really like it (10/10) but dwindled towards kds' rating.

I’ll Bet He’s Nice is by far the best song on side 2. A rare Wilson Brothers only vocals. Brian Wilson magic without sophisticated production. This is the direction that the band should have followed as the 70s came to a close.

Carl's sublime middle-8 and the tag with Bruce to the fore are especially worthy of top marks.

Ok, wow! a big thanks to the 20 voters for I'll Bet He's Nice - I really LOVE YOU all and your opinions about this album, a personal favourite of mine (could ya tell?)
So how did it fare - 80% of our voters LOVE it (16), while a staggering 60% ABSOLUTELY LOVE it (12 votes rated 10). As per my last summary, I'd love to hear more from those less enthusiastic - as most of us are music lovers, it's a great opportunity to turn some of us tragics onto a new way of seeing things.
The final ratings were:
4 - 4 votes 7 - 2 votes 8 - 1 vote 9 - 1 vote 10 - 12 votes!!!!
Let's Put Our Hearts Together and see what we can cook up between us for the next round!

Let's Put Our Hearts Together presents Brian's shakiest vocal to date perhaps, thus seems to gain some ire from the various grindstone brigades around the traps.
It's raw as hell, but the sentiment and that one last little airing of the "original" Brian voice as his sustained "...I" reveals the man behind the curtain.
A high 8 from me, and an additional call-out to the sheer irony of the lyrics given the various shenanigans going after dark in the hallowed hallways of Chez Wilson at the time.

I think Brian was clever coming up with this (heartfelt) idea.
