We were discussing "Here Comes The Night" in another thread. In early spring of 1979, I still remember driving in my 1976 brown Ford Maverick and this song came on an AM radio station out of Lancaster, PA - and it sounded pretty damn good!

I saw it the night it was aired. Brian's slim appearance and playing Fender bass blew me away!

"Sunny" is really good; least annoying disco there is. Nice Christmas song "Mary's Boy Child". Liz Mitchell can surely sing.

The final :52 of Love Is Like Oxygen that contained a star-worthy disco groove to fade... Starts at about 6:00...

Eek. We haven't had a Donna Summer track yet. This fabulous suite should fix that--what a trip! This is for @iluvleniloud , whose new avatar is guaranteed to melt even the hardest heart. <3 Thanks John, that's very sweet of you I was just getting tired of Leni gifs and looking for a change This is my favorite Donna Summer song <3

KC and the Sunshine Band made some great disco tracks (although I didn't appreciate them at all at the time). "Get Down Tonight" was their breakout song, topping the US and Canadian charts in 1975. Love that double-speed guitar! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KC_and_the_Sunshine_Band

Of all the bandwagon-jumping acts in the '70s, Kiss and Rod Stewart produced two classics. Love the bass on both!

I didn't know it was Disco at the time. All I knew was that I really dug the track.

Just to show I bear iluvleniloud no hard feelings, here are two great bass-fuelled disco tunes from our distant past: Narada Michael Walden's "I Shoulda Loved Ya" and Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots":

This is rather nice: Czech Italo-disco from 1987, a thing called "Táta se dívá" (which apparently means "Daddy is watching"!) sung by Heidi Janků. Love the instrumental coda.

Not everything ultradiskopanorama uploads grabs me but this certainly does. Disco can be subtle when it wants to be, if "Take Off", the closing track from Polish singer Jolanta Arnal's 1985 album Jola Anarl is anything to go by: www.discogs.com/Jolanta-Arnal-Jola-Arnal/release/3362655

Right now I'm on a bit of a Johnny Mathis kick, most notably his 1958 album Merry Christmas -- wonderful festive stuff! I then recalled a disco song he'd recorded in the late '70s and looked around for it. Called "Gone, Gone, Gone", it wasn't a hit even though it didn't sound bandwagon-y and had a superb arrangement. It got reasonable radio play in the UK. According to YT commenter L. Russell Brown: "I produced the basic track I had the amazing Pretty Purdy on percussion Will Lee on bass Jay Berliner on rhythm guitar and David Spinoza in electric guitar. I'm not certain if I had Frank Owens in keyboards. I personally explained the arrangement as I played the band the song on my guitar.... [Producer] Jack Gold took the track and had magnificent strings added...." Enjoy! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_Days_of_My_Life

The lyrics of both big hits by West German outfit Silver Convention consisted of just six words: Fly, Robin, Up, To, The, and Sky in the case of "Fly, Robin, Fly" (1975), and Get, Up, And, Boogie, That's and Right for "Get Up And Boogie" (1976):

This has disco written all over it. Daft Punk's "Lose Yourself To Dance" (2013) features Chic mastermind Nile Rodgers on guitar (and some bloke called Pharrell on vocals). Random Access Memories is an album I still have to get to grips with but I rather think that when I do, it will sink its teeth in and not let go. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lose_Yourself_to_Dance

Seeing Nile Rodgers in the previous video reminded me that Chic still has to make an appearance in this topic. The receptions band I was in from 1988 to 1995 included "Le Freak" in its "funk medley" but I've always understood Chic to be closer to the spirit of disco. "Good Times" is simplicity itself -- four guitar chords, an iconic bass line courtesy of Bernard Edwards, some judiciously harmonized vocals, the occasional string interjection, a fearsome offbeat in the chorus and very little else: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Times_(Chic_song)

Can't say I'm a fan, but I was looking at the disco thread on Hoffman. Kinda sad that people can't just live and let live. The way some of them go on about it, it's like their masculinity feels threatened.
