It just took me fifteen seconds to find Sunflower on Spotify. This is how I did it: 1: Type Sunflower in search box. 2: press "enter" key. This works for Surf's Up too. Thank you for kindly taking the time to do that. However I wasn't commenting on whether you would be able to find them. Spotify Canada which I am using doesn't have them. I wonder if people in the US can access them? Pro tip: step 2 should not be necessary. -- I'll continue my Sunflower/Surf's Up hiatus a little longer in the hope that this box makes it out. See, there's the point: you didn't say "not on Spotify in Canada", you just said "not on Spotify". I can only work with the info as supplied.

Sad thing is, a set covering this period this would benefit the critical standing of ALL members of the band.

Despite the prophets of doom on SS, "not scheduled for release" doesn't equate with "cancelled". In the real world, anyway.

Not much info to get too exercised about yet.
We don't want another runaway super Sirius Shirtgate situation before we know much of anything. Plenty of time to not-hate when we know something.

If it doesn't come out, I promise not to spit out my dummy and I'm equally adamant I will continue listening to the band. I'd like to put that in writing in case I'm banned.
Meanwhile, Olivia De Havilland dead at 104, uh?

Maybe I'm old manning it....again....but didn't Mark or someone say sometime ago they were hoping for a Fall release?
This is almost August...is finished one month before Fall...what indicates there is a delay in plans?
#DidIMakeThisUpOrDreamIt?

As of now, it could be released on December 20th and it would be "on time". Although it would be beneficial for them if they released it at least a few weeks before Christmas.

Admittedly I hadn’t realised those albums are still available elsewhere. But based on the information that was available to you, what’s more likely: 1. We’re in different locations; or 2. I can’t type/spell?

The guys are entitled to their music and the way it’s presented. I anticipate a great release, but no game-changer. The game’s been over for years now. I refuse to enter the quarterly “Mike is an a-hole” tirade. Besides, Brian remains unnamed but, unlike Jardine and Johnston and much like Love, he didn’t say anything yet about this box set. Maybe he’s part of the delay here.
Nevertheless, as we discuss the Christmas Album of 1978 in another thread, I marvel at the paradox of these guys, who had the nerve to put out the “Christmas Medley“ while having cold feet about releasing a comprehensive collection of their peak as a group of creative individuals.

The Friday before Memorial Day would have been a perfect time to release it. Unofficial beginning of summer, lots of places starting to open back up... Not sure there's really a great release date at this point unless they can get it out by Labor Day.

With so many still out of work, splurging on a box set makes more sense at Christmas than right now or Labor Day.

Despite the prophets of doom on SS, "not scheduled for release" doesn't equate with "cancelled". In the real world, anyway. You missed this quote from Stebbins. “Maybe this will get worked out, it doesn't look great right now.” Can you blame the fans over at Smiley for being pessimistic?

I mean, Stebbins is an insider but he's not directly involved with this project and can only speculate like the rest of us. Correct me if I'm wrong. Jon ain't speculating.

Exactly, and a little decoding of the sentences in Jon's post will give you a decent idea of what is holding up the release. At least for me, anyway.

Well it's actually quite fascinating because artists some times are not interested in discarded takes and mistakes, while historians are fascinated by process like medieval scholars who are fascinated by annotations in manuscripts and erroneously readings , which editors will discard when creating an edited text for publication. So I can understand that an artist can say, Hey there is a very beautiful version of that song that we willfully and willingly published after 18 hours of trying to get it right and why do you want to publish the failures from that long 18 hour period of our struggle, which we did things that we were obviously not satisfied with.
So I can imagine a tension between historical archival work, where sonic archeologists want to chronicle the entire fascinating process of creativity, something which quite passionately support, and the artist's puzzlement as to why things they never wanted to see the light of day should be the subject of study and public consumption.
I hope this is a generally fair and really neutral observation of just a basic truism of a tension between 2 theories of aesthetics.
