"Red Rubber Ball" by Simon & Garfunkel, live. Garfunkel starts with joke about The Cyrkle. Simon plays acoustic. The pair sings.

This afternoon at 4:10pm I got a day older, and going towards 68 years if I make it. This morning I started by listening to some of my favorite singers. This is #1:

I love this, and often play it in the morning:

Some of us do (love that instrumental). Not really the Beach Boys, but this is. Oh, and this is my second favorite singer:
Carl was the right one to pick to sing this lead vocal. The song ranks very high on my Beach Boys' favorites list. Reminds me of my youth, and all the times I spent floating down the river in my hometown.

This is my favorite modern singer, Sam Beam. The song is from my favorite Iron & Wine album.
That would be Ghost On Ghost. I keep up hope he can one day make one better.

Herb Pedersen. Another favorite singer, but when I get to third, it gets harder to pin-point. He's up there in the top 10. Herb did this song with the Dillards first, then put it on his first solo album:
Herb also made my very favorite Beatles cover, "Paperback Writer" - you should check it out if you get the time.

Back to it. Had to stop to play that one, again. The next video is something I found recently. Stephen's coked-out years were his best, he still had an incredible amount of talent in 1980:

I play this little Soul number when folks try to tell me Stephen had lost it in the mid-seventies. Like Brian during the same/late seventies period, ragged, but right, just worked for me.

I've been listening to this particular Joni album a lot this past year. Most of the songs are very moving, and have lots of lyrical meaning for me.

No other female singer touched me quite in the way Laura Nyro did. Her music and her voice is magical to me. This is from 1966:
This is one of the demos that got her a recording contract.

I have seen it before, and I love it! My favorite on M.I.U., along with "Pitter Patter". The whole of side two is great. Brian could still, in 1977, pull out his sweet voice. When he wanted to, that was the key. Brian had many voices in the seventies. And this is not some old recording, IIRC it's from November 1977. The man just did what the hell he wanted to, when he wanted to. I do believe he had some problems with his voice in the eighties, but not in the seventies.

Went and checked. Brian and Mike had the song ready as the M.I.U. sessions began. 8 and 18 November 1977. Then they worked on it more at the end of the album sessions, at Wally Heider's March 1978. Maybe somebody has the exact details on what was recorded, when and how. C-man, get that book out!

Fille..not sure it’s a pink shirt. To me it looks like his shirt and pants are different shades of white and the faded old film and lighting makes it look pink (not sure) but the important thing is Denny looks great cause he appears totally happy and sober, a look that would soon become rare after that time. Brian on the other hand does not look happy. To me Brian almost never looks like a happy person in anything I see past the glory days. Tieing in to my next point...
Will...your comment about Brian doing whatever the hell he wanted rings true. The problem was he really did not want to do what he had always done and what was expected of him. You are correct in the fact that his singing on MIU was great at times...so why the rough, strained, no one would recognize him vocals on Love You and 15 big ones...? That bonus track on NPP of In The Back Of My Mind was a mind opener. It proved he could sing very close to the old Brian if he wanted to but refused. IMO a significant piece of proof that he had serious problems. This is something that I think many of even the most diehard fans like us here seem to ignore. Apparently..his voice was not shot in the mid to late 70’s but it seems he sure as hell tried his best to make everyone think it was. Who on earth in the singing business has ever not sang as best as they can, or sang the way they did that made them successful if possible? Why this is not discussed more baffles me.

Never saw this video. Dennis looks amazing in that pink shirt. I'm always surprised by how much I like this song! Kinda like Yacht Rock disco (it would have been muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better on LA instead of HCTN) or the theme for a George Segal/Marsha Mason type romantic comedy film. What's the actual audio for this footage?

I admit not realizing the match point video was fake.
till I read a comment. Nothing of what I saw had drawn my attention to the fact that it's insane before that point, and nothng has drawn me to that video more than its hell-like vibration.

The fabulous Orlons. They weren't hitsters for too long, but they made some great records in the early sixties. Philly Soul from Cameo. I call it better than the Crystals version, and at least as good as the original. I remember this the best. "Gee Whiz" - Ms Peters did a great take on it, as well.

When my wife mentioned I needed to watch American idol to see the next music sensation, I was skeptical. Then I watched this. My goodness this kid is amazing! Excited to hear what the future has in store for this rising talent.

'a Capitol Reissue' early 80's green label pressings = A+
Also:
How's this for a poll: "Dreamer's Ball" vs. "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" Me? I go with the Sting album The Dream Of The Blue Turtles .

Got the tree yesterday, really earlier in the day. It's pretty late here.
It's time to start playing Christmas music around here.
