This Supertramp song (written & sung by Rick Davies) is a wonderful combination of beautifully crafted music, absolutely mesmerizing. Even if he himself has said in interviews that he doesn’t feel a thing from this song and Goodbye Stranger (another great song), this is still one heck of a song. I've yet to hear a Supertramp song I don't like -- and this is no exception. Thanks! Well I know I listened to BiA and other Supertramp albums years ago and was really impressed. Before then I'd snubbed the band and their music for no good reason, except maybe that they were incredibly popular at the time. The same goes for Sting's solo stuff -- not a bad track there either.

The idea of one act on one side of an LP and another act on the other has never appealed to me. This late '80s example is an exception. NRG (New Russian Group, НРГ) and the mighty Alyans (Alliance, Альянс) complement each other wonderfully well:
A1 НРГ - Тревожные Сны · Disturbing Dreams A2 НРГ - Время Зовет Меня · Time Calls Me (4:00) A3 НРГ - Но Мы Не Слышим Песню · But We Don't Hear A Song (7:37) A4 НРГ - Мой Светлый День · My Light Day (11:32) A5 НРГ - Проснись · Wake Up (15:47)
B1 Альянс - Фальстарт · False Start (19:58) B2 Альянс - Наши Глаза · Our Eyes (25:42) B3 Альянс - Дайте Огня · Give Fire (29:48) B4 Альянс - На Заре · At Dawn (35:31)

nts1drums : During my exploration of the music of Supertramp (some time halfway between the release of their albums and now), I recall listening to Even in the Quietest Moments... and thinking what an appropriate title! I think it may have been the title track that made the deepest impression in that respect. Revisiting it now, it is indeed a wonderfully evocative song: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Even_in_the_Quietest_Moments... It truly is wonderful. Ironically I think the title track may be the most underrated cut on this album. I especially like the backing bass vocals.

Rick sings - man they had the vocal goods. "Good-bye Stranger" -Rick is talking out his hat.

Listening to the full performance of Dig A Pony from the rooftop performance. Damn near every version of the recording up until now has the “All I Want Is” section before the first verse and the ending removed. This finally restores that properly. Love it!

Uploader Dan Fingerman's description says it all (not to forget the close to 400 comments):
Hi peeps. A bit of a different upload today. I found this video on Youtube through a Discord server about Boards of Canada. The original uploader claimed to have found this video on a thrifted VHS tape. People went nuts over the fact this could be unreleased Boards of Canada tracks, but I doubt it. Especially since the tape was found in the USA, according to the original uploader. Some Boards of Canada tracks seem to have been sprinkled in though. I liked the upload so I downloaded it. Turns out the original uploader deleted the entire channel (probably due to hate from people saying it's fake). Never thought I'd be someone to save something from being lost media, but here I am... I doubt it's a lost Boards of Canada release, but it's a really nice collection of music anyway! Hope you enjoy it.
Original description from the now deleted video:
A few or more years ago I used to work at a local Red White & Blue Thrift center and the employees would always get first pick on any of the items that were dropped off. There was a box full of VHS tapes, some of which were horror movies. I grabbed four of the tapes. The tapes have remained on my shelf and never watched any of them until recently over the pandemic when the entire world was in lockdown. I went to go watch The Shining. I took the tape out of it's box and noticed there was no label on the VHS tape. I popped it in and to my surprise this is what was on that tape. I was a little irritated, as I am a big Stephen King fan and was looking to watch the movie. I fast forwarded the tape, but it goes all blank after the music and clouds stop. I figured, some jack-ass decided to over dub cheesy music over some boring video footage of clouds. After all these months, I decided to convert the VHS footage to digital and post it.
No idea who made this tape, whether it's some kind of joke, or what the music is. I tried to use the Shazam music app to see if I could identify, but no luck there. Maybe someone else knows? If I had to make an honest guess, I think possibly the tape is a student experiment for a class and maybe they made a tape compiled of music to throw on top of it and they accidentally put it in the wrong cassette box? Either way, I find it interesting or maybe slightly creepy. I was goin to throw the tape away, but something about the whole ordeal, I find very interesting.

I just discovered this wonderful pre-Beach Boys Bruce Johnston song, which was co-written between him and a famous drummer! Can you guess who it is?

I was thinking Sandy Nelson but he hasn't been famous for 60 years. So I'm afraid I had to look around, and found this. Well I never. I see Hal B co-wrote two tracks on the album.

I had the impression that JR was a mid-sixties artist but I see now he was still having hits in the mid seventies. He even sang at Chuck Berry's funeral in 2017... Interestingly, his version includes elements of "Ronda" as well as "Rhonda". Sounds pretty good to me! Thanks for sharing! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Rivers

I hardly ever listen to complete albums these days, let alone complete albums in my collection. During the past few days, I found myself listening to Surf's Up twice on Spotify (which I now have on my phone), once with earbuds and once without. It still stands as my favourite Beach Boys album, and the 2fer with Sunflower as my favourite Beach Boys CD.
This, in my opinion, is Bruce's finest hour:

I find it interesting about Brian singing on Johnny Rivers’ version of Help Me Rhonda, remembering what Brian said to Murry about Rivers on the “I’m a Genius Too” exchange.

You mean the "singing for money" exchange? I found mention of it at Hoffman but couldn't locate an audio version of it. l listened to a couple of clips but I may have missed it...

At just over 42 minutes it means I'm not up all night puzzling. Anyway, I'm recuperating from some surgery so late nights are even less of a good idea these days. I've quoted everything from my original post as it helps to know the full crazy story. I love these mysteries! The Lost Media Wiki is another area I find fascinating, stuff that has been around and is often well documented but has simply vanished from the face of the earth. Over there, it's party time whenever some cyber-archaeologist unearths a long-lost artefact.

Hey all,
I recently picked up a rather pristine "Carl Wilson/Carl Wilson" LP, so I've been playing that ever since. It's great to have the lyrics on the inner sleeve too.

That's my choice out of Carl's two solo albums, although I must confess I'm fonder of some tracks from Beckley-Lamm-Wilson's Like A Brother. While I'm here, a friend recently sent me this picture from 1981 of The Carl Wilson Band in NYC:

I must admit (rather ashamedly) I have never had the opportunity to listen to "Like A Brother". I stumbled upon Carl's solo album on a local LP dealer's site about two weeks ago and could not believe my good fortune. Thanks again for sharing this photo.

It was a circuitous route, via (of all things) Johannes Kepler's music of the spheres, that led me to this gorgeous electronic work from 1979 by Laurie Spiegel, "Voices Within". But first this: I think most people here have found themselves "liking" a post and then quickly changing their mind, hoping the recipient didn't notice. I've done it once or twice myself. Well it happened to me two nights ago -- one minute I noticed a little "1" attached to "Profile" and the next minute it was gone. No worries -- it's little mysteries like these that add a dash of spice to life. This is for that person: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurie_Spiegel

The first work on the programme of the opening concert at the Muziektheater in Amsterdam in September 1986 was an opera, Ithaka, with music by the Dutchman Otto Ketting (1935–2012) and a libretto by the composer and Kees Hin, who had made many documentaries using music commissioned from Ketting. Due to major differences of opinion with the stage director, Frans van Marijnen, it was a complete flop that seriously dented its composer's reputation. I only saw an embarrassing excerpt on TV but it was enough to put me off investigating anything else by Otto Ketting -- until I met him in the early 2000s. A most affable and unassuming man, he enjoyed a glass or two of Jack Daniels (in which I happily joined him) and had the broadest appreciation of music, including, to my surprise, that of Brian Wilson. We met him once more at a concert of his music. A decade later he was dead -- his health had always been poor. Recently his biographer, the musicologist, composer and author Elmer Schönberger, arranged much of the music from Ithaka into a three-movement symphony, with a vocal finale à la Mahler's Fourth. Here is its premiere, performed live in The Hague on 18 March 2022 by the Residentie Orkest under Antony Hermus with Martijn Cornet (baritone): 1. "The empty darkness frightens me" 2. "Wild fantasies" 3. "As you set out for Ithaka" elmerschonberger.com/nieuws/2022/03/07/ithaka-symphony-van-opera-tot-symfonie/

Doc Severinson's Closet (1970) is a real mixed bag -- a bit too mixed for my liking! Still, you have to take your hat off to an artist who includes "The Court Of The Crimson King", "Give Me Just A Little More Time" and "Surfer Girl" on an album -- and that's just on side one. But it's the groove-heavy workout on side two, "Footprints Of The Giant", that took my fancy the most. Based on themes of Béla Bartók, adapted by Don Sebesky (a name I keep encountering these days), it's bookended by the xylophone and timp textures in the opening and closing bars of the third movement of Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta (1936). Severinson reached the grand old age of 95 earlier this month: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Severinsen
