lead sheet for crack at your love. dated 1984. words and music by brian and landy:
"i'm headed for something big. i feel it building up deep inside. i've been trying to let you know, that i feel that i love you so; wonderin' why it feels like this, wishing i could get a kiss. and you know, i'd like to get a crack at your love.
you make life sunny. your sense of humor is funny. who taught you how to walk that way? when you smile i know the world's ok. when i see a twinkle in your eye, it sends my heart all the way to the sky. and you know i'd like to get a crack at your love.
lonely nights, lonely days.
sweetheart, baby. don't say maybe. i can't hide the way i feel. i can't hide that it feels so real. i don't want to get hurt again, like the time a 'way back when. and you know, i'd like to get a crack at your love"
the same person is also selling another lead sheet for the song but from 1985 and with Al Jardine credited along w/ Brian and Landy. the lyrics are the same as the final version. i guess this started as a Brian/Landy song, then they got Al to work on the lyrics. www.ebay.com/itm/BRIAN-WILSON-Eugene-Landy-Lead-sheet-Crack-at-your-love-Al-Jardine/353096147148?hash=item52362ba0cc:g:PMgAAOSwnV9e1~2Z

Gee, that woman sure has a lot of blankets. I must've seen her with at least 20 or more differing ones now. Yet she always poses in the same way with each one. Strange... 😜

I've only seen this particular picture. I wouldn't mind just having just one of the blankets. Wonder who the woman is and where she's from.

It is not a mirror. We have been over this. If it's not a mirror, then how come you can see the reflection of his knee in it ?

It is not a mirror. We have been over this. If it's not a mirror, then how come you can see the reflection of his knee in it ? Aside from the fact that the shape of the knee in the mirror not matching up to the knee it’s supposed to be casting a shadow of (not sure of the order but the knee cap/the entire image was dropped in later) the knee is also off from the plane of view it should be casting, so forget about the knee. You would never get that angle being straight on in front of Brian and NOT get your camera or yourself in the mirror. The lighting is totally wrong as The Beach Boys would be a very dark shadowy image in said mirror since full light it falling on Brian. Meaning full light would be falling on the Boys backs and their faces would be in shadow. The image of the Boys is way too sharpe and focused. It’s a distance thing. There would be all kinds of ambient light reflecting and bouncing off of the mirror creating a crappy image with glare (again, instead of the nice clean crisp one especially from the angle. I could go on as I do like to ramble when I post, but perhaps the most obvious is the fact that the boys are correct as true to looking at them from an observers perspective when in fact we’re it a reflection you would be seeing them reverse of their true self. The eyes nice mouth... no one is totally symmetrical and your mirror self always points this out to you. In this case the hair is the real quick giveaway..... all parted in the correct direction as all photos from that era. Put this one to rest. It’s NOT a mirror.

oh. thats one book i still need to check out. i'm just interested in what Brian says about Landy, since this would've been right after the separation. it's interesting how he went from "oh yes, dr landy saved my life. but he doesn't control me. i lead my own life" in 91, to "my doctor would yell, wouldn't leave me alone. but i learned to eat right and exercise" just like 3 yrs later.

I am not sure why you feel so emphatic about it when the knee is perfectly placed in the mirror and the border around the mirror looks like a full door mirror. If a good photographer set the shot up properly, the lighting would make it so there is not any glare or shadows. Unarguably, it really is a creative shot of the band.

There is a chance that Brian WAS in fact holding a mirror and that his knee was reflected but it IS not a correct match. It’s too round telling me the cut and paste of the photo of the boys was added .... his entire leg line where it meets the ‘mirror’ has a funny unnatural edge to it. As I said earlier, putting the knee issue aside, I would think the other points I raised who be enough to convince people. The lighting stuff alone. What I said about the haircuts and facial features is a simple way to disprove the mirror image...the reason ambulance is spelled backwards on the front of an ambulance is because we’re it not it would be backwards and unreadable in your rear view mirror. The boys features would also be backwards.... they are not. Having gone to and graduated photo school and been paid in the past to take pictures of people, places and objects and worked in dark rooms ....trust me it’s not what it’s intended to look like. Does not make me a know it all on the subject of photography but an most people with photography knowledge would likely spot the fake feel of that image within a glance. The exact order of the way the image was created I can’t confirm. Was he holding an actual photo of the boys and the knee was pasted to look like a mirror? Possibly. Was he holding a mirror and then a separate image of the boys was cut and pasted to cover up what had really been reflected in the mirror? Very possibly. In any case it was something of that nature.

Was he holding a mirror and then a separate image of the boys was cut and pasted to cover up what had really been reflected in the mirror? Very possibly. In any case it was something of that nature. I get the feeling it's a couple of separate images, perhaps cut from one original image of the touring team added in to a pic of Brian holding the mirror. Supporting the idea there is an element of a reflection is the similar sliding door infrastructure, and I tend to agree the reflection is of his knee. However, for me Carl looks particularly awkward in both his proximity to Al, like his image has been moved forward or moved in, and the leaf to his right looks dinked with to accomodate. Mike's outline is also a bit sus, which makes me think the band has been cut in. As Paul mentioned earlier, the lighting on the other guys is a bit too consistent, a reflected image would have been pretty hard to control re ambient lighting due to imperfections on the glass surface throwing different shades all over the shop. Additionally, the photographer would have been in a pretty tight spot to get that angle - I will assume the Carl manipulation (if it ever happened) was to conceal the photographer. But, it would have been pretty planned out, so I'm surprised no-one's uncovered the elements etc. At the end of the day, I don't want to think about the pic too much, because Bruce looks as though he's growing out of somewhere that Brian would likely not want him to be growing out of.

The photo of the BBs minus Brian exists and was used in some 1960s magazines-it was cropped to fit in that “mirror”

The photo of the BBs minus Brian exists and was used in some 1960s magazines-it was cropped to fit in that “mirror” So what is the little rounded white arc between Al and Carl at the bottom? The way that mirror is sitting on Brian’s lap, it sure looks like his knee in white pants. Does anyone have that particular pic of the Boys without Brian?

Just wondering if maybe we’re tending to overthink this thing now, and that there might be a much simpler explanation to be had.
So why not apply a deft touch of Occam’s Razor to this quandary, and ask ourselves if the ‘knee reflection’ might possibly be just the rim of a hat that Alan is holding? I’m not aware of the date of the ‘mirror’ photo, but in ’66 he had at least two nifty titfers on the go, a peaked cap and a fetching pork pie hat which he both held and wore during the April Pet Sounds promo shoot, and which is my preferred candidate for the mystery object.

Probably had well more than 2 nifty titfers in 1966.
