Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys (1990) "Dramatization looks at the tumultuous relationship that existed between rock group The Beach Boy's Brian and Dennis Wilson and their father, Murry. It also examines their struggles with drugs and alcohol." (IMDb) Currently available full-length courtesy of Elora: (not authorised and no original music...)
Is this too horrible to discuss? I'm going for 3, if only because I know there is worse out there. Amazon is selling the DVD 2nd hand for £25, new for £80. Astounding. The reviews there are surprisingly positive, but probably due to non-fans seeing some interesting happenings. Based on Gaines' 'Heroes and Villains', so bookended by Dennis at the Marina, but without the in-depth management and financial details. Also, relatively cleaned up. So hey, it could be worse! Hilarious but sad at the same time, since it seems to be mostly true unfortunately. Hilarious? Well they managed to make Brian look like Oddbod from 'Carry on Screaming':

Yay! Some votes. Showing mine to be over-generous! But also, I thought there might perhaps be comments from British gentlemen of a certain age about Fenella Fielding. Glad that you all resisted!

YOU'RE OUTTA THE BAND, BUCKWHEAT.
True story: we had a bunch of friends over a few years ago for a screening of this classic. Upon hearing a teenaged Dennis say, "You know what I love about seagulls?" one of our friends reflexively screamed.

pendlewitch you're right, it could be worse. Murry is well played, the best actor in all BB movies, imho. I liked Bruce Greenwood's performance. Overall, a 5.

I haven’t seen it since it’s original airing on TV in the US. Is that the one where Brian acted weak and wishy-washy throughout his career, even during the early days of success?

Summer Dreams is currently free to stream on Amazon Prime in the U.S.
Looks like it's been remastered for 16x9 HD. Picture quality is greatly improved compared to original broadcast/YouTube versions. Unfortunately, the script remains the same.
I'm watching it now for the first time in decades. Enjoying it far more than expected.
Can't wait to see the beards in high def!

----- 45 minutes later: Thanks for the heads up. 4th of July weekend is a great time to watch this. I’m also listening to the 6CD Made in California this weekend.
