Review of Ruth Eckerd Hall concert last night: Nothing political, show was sold out, Mike bantered very little and poked fun at Stamos and his mother (!). They played for an hour with 20 min intermission then close to another hour. Jeff Foskett played mostly rhythm guitar, did not sing or speak at all, looked trim and like he was having fun. First half almost all pre-PS stuff, with some deeper cuts like Good To My Baby. Great video of mostly stills of the band from back in the day and the time frame a song was recorded. Mike and Bruce both in great voice! Bruce nailed vocals on Disney Girls and Do You Wanna Dance with a shout out to Dennis at the end. You could hear him doing the refrain on CG in the mix just like it was recorded. My wife had never seen the California Dreamin' video which they played in the background with Tim Bonhomme doing a great vocal, also same on Darlin'. Local Scott Totten blazed on this guitar, and we think his daughter was on stage dancing by him for a couple songs. They know their audience- pictures of our local favorite (American) college football cheerleaders (UF and FSU) were put up during True to Your School! Having first seen the BBs in 1978, and various incarnations of them as well as many Brian shows, this show was amazing. In my opinion, both bands are great. Brian's band is surgically precise with vocals, all of the various odd instruments, and perfectly performed recreations of the originals. The current guitar heavy Beach Boys line up just flat out rocks! Both bands do justice to and keep Brian's great music alive. These guys are getting old, so go see them while you can! Jeff! Bravo! 🎸👍🌹❤️

Forgot to post my review here of the show I attended in Louisville. First of all, the Louisville Palace is a beautiful venue. If you ever make it to Louisville, you definitely need to check it out. It was once a movie theater, so they have lots of old movie posters hanging in the lounge area. The actual seating area is surrounded by a vaulted ceiling made to look like a nighttime sky, complete with stars. Around the side are sculptures of people and buildings to make it feel like you're surrounded by an old Spanish village. Onto the concert, I was a little nervous that it would be a short concert with it being the first show of the year. I was wrong and it may have been the longest show I've been to outside of C50. They have apparently played there before and Mike of course made the joke that they played the grand opening (it opened in 1927). The show actually started with no introductions outside of the radio station sponsoring the show and went right into Do It Again. After that was Little Honda, which I don't think I've heard since. I still love the little guitar riffs they added to it. They stopped after Hawaii and that's when Mike was talking about the theater. He mentioned it was one of the few places he could actually hear himself sing. California Sun sounded much better than on his album. It's OK was the version from his album with Christian singing the Hanson guy's part. Getcha Back had the new lyrics as well. If you've been to Mike and Bruce shows in the past, you know they get everyone to turn on their flashlight during Surfer Girl. Well, they did it for In My Room this time. Bruce sang You're So Good To Me again and once again it really soundeded like he was struggling. Mike's Wheeeeeen schtick for Be True To Your School was much shorter. Not that I'm complaining. After I Get Around was about a 20 minute intermission. California Dreamin' got a huge round of applause. When Mike announced God Only Knows, I could tell he was trying not to get choked up. I think the anniversary of Carl's death was the day before. During Disney Girls things kind of went off the rails for Bruce. He started to play his part he does on the keyboard, but for some reason he thought it was projecting sound (it was) and he stopped playing. Then the band stopped playing and everyone was in awkward silence while Bruce said something to Brian. Someone said let's start over, but as that was said Bruce picked up where he left off in the song and so did the band. When the song was over he hit a few keys and threw his hands in the air and looked back stage. Hopefully someone told him it was on the whole time! Mike is no longer singing Help Me Rhonda. I thought he sounded a lot better than people gave him credit for, but it's still not the right song for him to sing, in my opinion. Rockaway Beach is still getting a standing ovation. I wouldn't be shocked if that becomes a permanent addition to the set list. Too bad they didn't do more of that 40 years ago. Cowsill did a different ending to Good Vibrations than the one he's done for years now. I had a great time and one thing that helped was the crowd was really into it. It would have been even better if Bruce didn't motion for everyone to sit down a few times! Probably more energy there than some of the outdoor summer shows I've been to. A huge contrast to Brian's show in September where there was hardly any energy at all. Hopefully they still come to Cincinnati later in the year. Here is the set list pretty much in order. Do It Again Little Honda Catch a Wave Hawaii California Sun It's Ok Surfin' Safari Surfer Girl Getcha Back In My Room Good to My Baby When I Grow Up You're So Good To Me Dance Dance Dance Be True to Your School Don't Worry Baby Little Deuce Coupe Shut Down 409 I Get Around California Dreamin' California Girls Sloop John B Wouldn't it Be Nice God Only Knows Pisces Brothers Here Comes the Sun Their Hearts Were Full of Spring Disney Girls Sail On, Sailor Do you Wanna Dance Help me Rhonda Barbara Ann Rock and Roll Music Rockaway Beach Surfin' USA Kokomo Good Vibrations Fun Fun Fun

Good to see Ike back on guitar and singing some leads, especially the high parts. I don't see Jeff in the picture; maybe he's there in the back? Didn't realize Mike sang Rhonda before - that song along with Darlin' should be reserved for Cowsill.

Jeff was not there. I read he was at a recent show, but did not sing anything, only playing guitar. I think Mike started singing Rhonda in 2017, presumably because he sang it on Unleash the Love.

Pretty much definitely *not* going to go to the London show now. Brian/Al/Blondie are playing Manchester the same week, and I was already doubtful about making two London trips a week or so apart, because I'm going down there to see Randy Newman on the seventh, so I'm just going to go and see Brian's show instead.

See the list of shows. Thank you for that, Andrew. Some of this was taken out of their hands by emergency government measures being taken - but more importantly, that they jealously guard their health. Be well - Beach Boys! 🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️ You can use the time productively, to do some composing. Better than de-composing from corona virus picked up, on the road! Your audiences will be patient to see you again while they stay well. 🎼🎵🎹🎸🎧

Re: Beach Boys ages for upcoming tours. My wife just told me this morning that 60 is new 30 ... so does it follow that 80 is the new 50? Then again, this was all part of her request for me to spring clean the garage, so there might be an ulterior motive to her logic.

The concert postponements are beginning to be announced, starting with March 27 in Portland, Maine. This from the Bangor Daily News: bangordailynews.com/2020/03/12/business/waterfront-concerts-reschedules-3-shows-in-maine-this-month/"Waterfront Concerts announced Thursday it is rescheduling three shows scheduled in Portland and Orono this month. "The three shows -- Martina McBride, Celtic Woman and The Beach Boys -- were scheduled between March 14 and 27 and will no longer take place during that time. "If you have a ticket to these shows, your ticket can be used at the rescheduled date. Once the rescheduled dates are announced, refunds will be made available, according to Waterfront Concerts."

Given the government annoucement earlier today, and the immediate voluntary closure of all West End theatres, it's increasingly unlikely that the tour will be able to go ahead.
