Personally I would guess that Brian and his associates didn't realize the state he was in when the tour started. It is to their credit that they eventually realized that Brian wasn't going to get any better, and started cancelling the rest of the shows. This isn't the first tour where he has performed badly. I'd say at a minimum this has been going on since 2015-2016. My last show was in 2017 and he was awful. I paid for 3 tickets that were $100.00 a piece. I expect the man to be able to sing if we are going to his show. I know Brian has issues and I try to look past most, but you should be able to at least sing at a musical event.

It's not the first time Brian has performed badly, but it's probably the first time he has done a number of shows consecutively where he didn't pick up momentum at all. 'Normally', it's a rough start, but then he picks up or there is some change in his performance, either better or worse. This run was brutal to watch him on stage, and moreso, seeing him look so vague and distant and not knowing what is going on. He looks totally lost on stage.

This run was brutal to watch him on stage, and moreso, seeing him look so vague and distant and not knowing what is going on. He looks totally lost on stage. Actually, I looked at some YouTubes from earlier in the tour, say, the last week of June, as compared to when I saw him, a couple of weeks later. And whatever is going on, long covid or back issues (I did see him use his arms to push himself up in a more comfortable position, multiple times, in the hour or so he was on stage.) It is not speculation, because I was close enough to see what was going on. I thought he sang well, and was taking a lot of Mike’s more traditional bass sections. He was not flat even in that low register. It looked as though it was a quicker decline and he did not look rough 9 months ago so I have a basis for comparison. Sometimes stuff that comes on quickly, can be attended to, and resolved quickly, rather than a slow steady slide. That is what I am hoping for him that whatever it is - is temporary. We all celebrate his work (otherwise we would not be here) and keep a thought and a prayer for his continued improvement. I’ll speak for myself, in that regard, but doubt I am alone in that sentiment.

I think the idea that anyone could make Brian do what he doesn't what to do is a misapprehension. He's always been a multifaceted character, in spite of the manchild image that he's cultivated. There's a part of him that unabashedly enjoys performing for people -- the man is having an absolute ball on the Humble Harv demo -- and so much the better if he can surround himself with sympathetic workhorses to pick up the slack.
The question is rather if his intimates are indulging that aspect of his personality at the expense of better judgment. It's a very tricky call to make from the outside, because we don't 100% know what the alternative to Brian's touring life entails, while his family and friends have to live with it.

If he’s in the state we’ve seen recently yet secretly having the time of his life, then he should consider dishing out refunds. Just my two cents

I saw Brian in 2019 on his Friends / Surf’s Up tour. Even though “Love and Mercy” was the only Brian Wilson solo song, the deep dive into non-hit single / album Beach Boys songs was way far beyond anything Mike Love would ever do. It was incredible. Did Brian sing well? No. I was disappointed. But he did sing a lot, so I wouldn’t feel like I was ripped off on the tickets, or that there was any misrepresentation on whether this was a Brian Wilson show or just a tribute in disguise. The human voice is not like a vintage guitar, that sounds better with age, or wine that tastes better with age. If you want to hold onto your youth by hearing an 80-year-old rock and roll singer, you pay your money and take your chances.

No need to take chances. If he is willing to take your ticket money, then he should be prepared to give you your money’s worth. I stopped taking chances after the 2017 show.

Please Let Me Wonder was just a b-side; and not one that I'm aware of having great success on its own. Cottonfields too - except, yeah, it did well outside of the US, so it makes sense they played it over there.

If you're going to be super picky (moi ?), "Little Honda" was technically a #65 hit as the B side (with "Hushabye") of the 4 By The Beach Boys EP. "PLMW" charted at #52 as a B side... and yes, there are some non-US hits there that hit big elsewhere. My basic premise remains valid: anyone who claims the Brian's regular setlists over the last five, six years dive deeper than Mike's is in error. Oddly enough it was Brian who was responsible for rebooting Mike's setlists: up to 2004, the latter were meat & spuds. Then BWPS happened...

Oddly enough it was Brian who was responsible for rebooting Mike's setlists: up to 2004, the latter were meat & spuds. Then BWPS happened... Andrew - a lot of Brian’s shows for a long time, seemed to be theme-based. No Pier Pressure around 2015, was out around the time as the first film (Love and Mercy) and the Soundstage performance. The Right Time and Sail Away seemed to have a BB groove but were Brian-released. He did a lot of Pet Sounds Touring, so much so that people seemed more insistent that he do Greatest Hits rather than theme-based. The demand was greater for the hits. As for the Christmas shows, there were a lot of traditional carols, such as Blondie (phenomenal) on O Holy Night, so they were not originals. Depending on the venue (an old theater with great acoustics) Mike has done stuff such as Til I Die (Jeff) All I Wanna Do (Mike) or Wild Honey/Sail On Sailor (John Cowsill) over time. If either of them did not mix-it-up, at least occasionally, they might go crazy from boredom. But at places such as casinos with time constraints, you’re going to get greatest hits with both. But, we have never had, in the US a set list like the UK. Lucky people, there.

Very much so, thus:
Pet Sounds 1 (orchestral, US only) 2000 - 37 shows Pet Sounds 2 2002 - 34 BWPS 2004-05 - 91 Pet Sounds 3 (40th anniversary) 2006-07 - 10 TLOS 2007-09 - 32 BWRG 2011 - 26 Wilson/Beck 2013 - 22 Pet Sounds 4 (50th anniversary/Last Performances) 2016-19 - 216 Christmas Album 2018 - 17 Something Great from '68 2019 - 17
But of the "regular" BW setlists, they started off being very much not just the hits/classics before devolving into just that.

One thing I will stand up and shout about: the way Brian's management is handling the latest cancellations is flat out despicable and shows zero concern for the fans. Has there been any official word directly from them ? No, just second hand "statements" (actually, statement, singular) via various websites and media. What a bunch of incompetants they are.

Even his own website, which is slower than a wet week, normally would have addressed something like this by now, but nothing! Wtf? They would be better off just being honest and telling us at it is, this not knowing, just adds to the confusion and the endless rumours to where even innocent people are getting thrown under the bus.

I realise the frustrations. We'd all love to know what is going on.
However, if it is "due to health reasons" then none of us have a right to know what they are. Would we like our health issues to be divulged in public? Brian has had his fair share of this in the past.
When footballers or musicians test positive for Covid then that reason is usually not officially disclosed. Why should it be any different for other health issues?
In time we will find out. We can see for our own eyes Brian should not be on tour so let's give him some space and see what pans out.

I'm not expecting a detailed doctor's report, but the offocial website should have done more than simply wiped all mention of any more dates this year. There's nothing up there at all, not even "sorry, shows are off, more details later". The fans who have paid for the Tennessee gigs deserve better.

Years ago my wife and I were talking with a Mike Love insider who said it's so frustrating that people would come to various conclusions about Mike and the Beach Boys. My wife said something along the lines of, "Well, all fans can do is draw conclusions based on the information that is out there. If they're so frustrated by it, then they need to speak up and fill in the gaps that are causing people to draw conclusions in the first place."
Brian's folks need to do the same thing. Al said that they wouldn't be doing any more concerts at Pine Knob, so people are saying "THAT MEANS THEY'RE NOT GONNA DO ANY MORE SHOWS EVER FOR THE REST OF THE EXISTENCE OF THE UNIVERSE!!!" It's been over a week since all these cancellations with nothing more than literally the exact same message coming from various venues to the customers but mail-merged as apropos, with no word from Brian's team saying, "Brian needs a break," or "Brian is done," or anything. That's all we need. Four words is all it takes. Until then, various fans are going to come up with their own theories and spread them as if they're fact. So his management has zero reason to complain about whatever fans do end up saying.
