Ah, that makes much more sense - thanks for the correction. Helps if you spell it right in Google, of course... .

Very odd timing to announce some Japan shows now...I can't imagine many people buying tickets in the immediate future when people are being asked not to congregate in large crowds.

I look at that schedule and wonder "is someone trying to kill Brian"? Sheesh, I have relatives who are fairly close in age to Brian, and also in similar physical condition, and they don't have to deal with touring around the world - just getting to the grocery store a couple times a week is all they can handle. I know I sound like a broken record.....

The finally finalest finality of the no kidding take it to the bank pinky swear final performance of Pet Sounds? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... apparently not: seems the two Japan gigs - assuming they take place, of course - are Pet Sounds in full plus GH.

I'll pop to the Manchester show, and just hope it being a hits tour means he's less weary than he was the last couple of Pet Sounds shows I've seen.

Yeah, a tough schedule for Brian and Al.
I can't say that I would like to travel from Cardiff to Leeds and then play a show that day and I am years younger...

It would probably help if you got him a ticket too, because when he rang me this morning he'd been trying to contact Jeff and Nelson with a view to getting him on the guest list. I told him good luck with that (JP's a little behind the times, bless).

I'm going to leave it this time. Don't want to spoil the memories.
The very last time I saw him was at The Sage in July 2009, and that performance was pretty ropey; just couldn't bring myself to sit through something like that again. Memories of a better time, following his triumphant SMiLE show at Newcastle City Hall almost 16 years ago (jeez, that's insane when you say it out loud). We were staying at The Malmaison on the Quayside, as was the band, and this was the occasion that I alluded to in the Nicky Wonder thread from last September. The one looking a bit worse for wear (it was about 2.30am in the upstairs bar) - that would be me.

Ooh, I have a large tour poster from that gig - liberated it from the wall in the bar and Mr Wilson kindly signed it after the gig. Great memories… I think that was the time when I chatted with Darian, as he signed my programme, and insisted that he and the band really oughta get Brian in a studio to record that show, as a studio album.

My last BW gig was 2016 at the London Palladium, and it was just this side of acceptable.

Only Brian can get away with this kind of untruthiness, he has the Brian Pass, valid everywhere with everyone forever. (imagining the reaction if Mike had even once done something similar let alone multiple times over multiple years)

I was in Newcastle in 2017 - Live From Times Square. A memorable meeting with some band members thanks to JP. In fact a memorable few days in Newcastle with JP. Good memories. But I agree that this time calling Jeff might be a stretch ...

Ah, you were there as well? Were you at the pre-SMiLE - party at Pet Sounds in Bewick Street too? That was a great day. And ditto concert, if even Brian wasn't feeling too well that afternoon and evening. In fact the setlist was shortened a bit because of that.

According to an email I've just had from a former colleague, there'a a BW Fan Club presale on March 4th– anyone have any knowledge? I wasn't aware the Fan Club was still functioning! (I let my membership lapse about 20 years after receiving nothing for my money beyond one newsletter).

I wonder if there's any difference between the Greatest Hits shows of the last several years, and this "Good Vibrations Greatest Hits" show.

Unexpected! But I guess I'll sidle along to Cambridge, unless any seasoned veterans here think that Brian might bring his "A-game" to the RAH. Thoughts?
And strangely timed, we have in The Guardian today:

I coulda sworn that Brian said he was done going overseas. Wonder if these new Japan and Europe dates mean he's physically feeling better???
(I also coulda sworn that Brian said in 2006 that the Pet Sounds 40th anniversary mini-tour would be the last time he'd ever do Pet Sounds because he needed to do something different. I also coulda sworn that Brian told someone on the Blooboard back in 2000 that he'd never do "Heroes and Villains" in concert. And I coulda sworn that Brian said that he'd never finish Smile or let anybody hear the session tapes.)

The second-worst performance I've seen from Brian was at the Albert Hall in 2008 or 09 (the worst was the Pet Sounds show in Birmingham in 2018, which was just awful on his part). The quality of Mike and Bruce's shows seems to vary with the venue, but the venue doesn't seem to affect Brian at all. The one thing that does seem to make a difference is that he's notably better when he's not had to travel the same day as the show, but that won't apply for either London or Cambridge.
