This thread is so over my head. I have not had a beer in about two years. That was John Adams Cherry Wheat. Wine, maybe twenty years. Beer bloats me, wine just makes me ill, especially with food.Whisky Sours (with V.O. is my favorite), and Tanqueray Gin and Tonic w/lots of lime = gobble gobble. I also love White Russians on holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. I like a Bloody Bull with brunch, or on Halloween.
Will, what the hell did you have with your lobsters on your recent birthday? As I understand it, international law is pretty stringest about things like this, in as much as it decrees that they be accompamied by a cheeky chilled Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc, preferably Antipodean, at the very least. Otherwise it's a reportable felony, you do realise that, and as at this moment you are well and truly bang to rights?

I had a drinking party the next day, Saturday the 4th. A gin and tonic night. My days of drinking on Friday and Saturday are long gone. With my lobsters? Butter, broiled with lots of butter. Butter. Better than wine to my mind.

Guaranteed to get Will back on the beer; two years is a long time, and a bottle of this would surely make up for that admirable period of abstinence . And Ed, if you see this for sale anywhere on the Quayside you have to let me know, I am so there;

Tonight, it's going to be Adnam's Ghost Ship. One thing the virus has made me do is cut down. I wasn't drinking a lot, but I don't like drinking in the house; I prefer to drink with friends

Just to demonstrate how young hip and trendy I really I am, tonight it’s a large measure of Glenfiddich IPA whisky with Franklin & Sons Ltd 1886 Cola and ice.
Sacrilege, I know…

Don’t be too hard on yourself John, sacrilege is a mighty big word; I’d put it down to playful experimentation. Now then, if you’d done that with a 16 year old Lagavulin I might feel obliged to visit you in the wee hours and give you a bloody good smack.

My mum warned me against playful experimentation with 16-year-olds… when I was 14. Tbh it wasn’t bad but the Kola’s not up to much. It’s not my favourite whisky either – not bad, but a funny idea to mature it or finish it in IPA casks.

The Steamboat in South Shields, maybe a decade ago. I recall the beer of choice that night was Harviestoun's Schiehallion, but I don't recall much more...

I can't get away with that citrus taste. A friend went down to the Castle Eden brewery, now sadly based in Seaham, and picked up a large order which he shared out with family and friends. Not as good as when I can get it from the Dun Cow in Durham (one of three really good pubs in the city), but a decent substitute. Their milk stout is rather good too.
