Strangely, I rarely drink at home, except for the occasional (very good) whisky. If I'm out, it'll be 'an old man's pub' so we can hear ourselves and this might be the last week I feel comfortable with this. I don't know though... Hope everything's okay with you. Strange times. I've been primarily drinking at home for the last decade or so. I can be comfortable. The drinks are cheaper. No wait for the bathroom. I control the music.

My dilemma solved: pubs have been closed.
Possibly a Glengoyne tonight.

Same here, only make that "several decades". Most of our away-from-home drinking has been modest and mainly tied in with a meal and/or a classical concert.

My out of the house drinking is mostly the occasions I meet up with friends for a beer or two (couple times a year), and the occasional date night my wife and I get. We were actually planning on having more date nights in 2020....

‘No wait for the bathroom’. Kds, you just summed up middle aged life in one sentence 😆

Some very compelling arguments there, but Lager beer tastes best off the tap, in a pint glass, despite the inflated price (the cost of bubbles these days...) Aussie pubs all closed at the moment.

Last night, I compared a French Chardonnay to an Aussie Chardonnay.
The French had a nicer bouquet, but the creamier oak flavours of the Victorian Chardonnay and overall dryer mouth feel won out; Both complex and quite delicious, especially as we have a final burst of warm weather.
During this exercise, the young adults who won't leave put on The Fellowship Of The Ring, and I must confess, I, like Gandalf, did not make it past the Mines of Moria.
I note this morning, 40% less of a hangover compared to a Syrah comparison.

I generally don’t drink at home. I may start today.

I do agree that beer is better on tap. But, I also like my whiskey too. And, with a toddler, its rare I have a chance to get to a tavern.

Last weekend, faced with the imminent lockdown, we had a superiore Melini Chianti with our roast beef & Yorkshire pudding (made from scratch, no silly Aunt Bessie's around here).
(Sorry all global vineyards, only Italian wines get through our door for domestic harmony reasons.)
Next morning, I awake with fuzzy head, general overall not-greatness, argh! the Coronavirus got me . Oh, wait, no, only a hangover - not used to it.

Had the drinking at home/in a pub chat with Steph yesterday. My favourite local is now focusing on off-sales so any beer I enjoy from a bottle is available to be swilled at home…it seemed like a nice idea initially but I go to the pub for the crack, to meet my mates, have a blether… maybe even to talk about the ales. Not the same at home. Have considered buying a wee comfort package from the pub but I’d far rather be in there sharing some warm conversation and warm beer.
This lack of non-familial human interaction might be why I’m becoming a very grumpy sod online.
(Sorry, I mean an even grumpier sod)

I've discovered Landlord (the beer...) in a bottle is poor. Really disappointed with that. I miss the social interaction too. Possibly the only thing I miss about work these days too.

I don’t want you becoming a crack-head. Stay safe, pal.

I reckon the majority of ales are better on fraught; prefer Taylor’s Golden Best to Landlord too, but that might be the associated memories.

Fursty Ferret tonight - in a strictly non-Richard Gere fashion, of course...

Personally, I wouldn't touch either, but... Curiously, I have less trouble with the one on the left. I'll only drink the other stuff if there's really is nothing else.

Two locally brewed ales that I managed to find last week. I'd invite you all over for a bevy, but notwithstanding current social distancing rules I doubt whether any of you would still be on your feet after one bottle of Redemption. A bit like having 2/3 of a bottle of wine all to yourself in one glass. But someone's gotta do it....cheers! And many happy returns John, I'll raise one of these to you later tonight - you can choose which one

Radgie Gadgie: a fine pint. Last had it in the Broad Chare, a rare pub in Newcastle (these days) that always keeps its beers well. Not sure I've had Redemption, though.

It used to be a guest ale on tap at a stonking pub behind the High Row in Darlington when I worked in the town during the mid 90s. It's now a poncey hipster hangout.
Redemption is only in bottles, and quite difficult to find (I found mine on my doorstep last week after a good mate of mine called round and left me a few bottles). You can definitely get it in Fenwick's wine shop in Newcastle. And if you're not sure if you've had it or not, it wouldn't matter either way, 'cos it erases all your memory cells after you've had a glass.

This thread is so over my head. I have not had a beer in about two years. That was John Adams Cherry Wheat. Wine, maybe twenty years. Beer bloats me, wine just makes me ill, especially with food.
Whisky Sours (with V.O. is my favorite), and Tanqueray Gin and Tonic w/lots of lime = gobble gobble. I also love White Russians on holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. I like a Bloody Bull with brunch, or on Halloween.

White Russian... that's The Dude's drink, right? It was also a favourite of my erstwhile partner-in-crime at PSF.

One of the few Coen Brothers movies I've never seen. I own near a dozen: I love Barton Fink, Fargo, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Miller's Crossing, The Man Who Wasn't There, Suburbicon, Hail Caesar!, Burn After Reading, Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, True Grit (that one had Jeff). I'm a big fan of George Clooney films in general. I almost listed The Men Who Stare At Goats, which reminds me of a Coen film. There are two I didn't like: No Country For Old Men and Inside Llewyn Davis. I'll see the Dude movie one of these days.

I've heard such good things about it since then that I plan to watch it again as soon as possible. I do remember this scene though with the Beefheart song. Would that be a White Russian he's mixing and downing in the clip? As for the Coen Brothers, OBWAT baffled us (but we stayed awake). Ironically, we did enjoy NCFOM. One's man's meat I suppose...
