My favorite is "Earth Angel" by The Tokens. Four Freshmen sing beautifully. Would be interesting to hear posters' favorites.

Whispering Bells by the Dell Vikings was one of the first doowop songs I (consciously) heard. Still love it.

I've been fond of On The Street Corner Series by a Japanese singer Tatsuro Yamashita, where he sings doo-wop classics in a cappella.
This is my favorite cut. It's purely breathtaking.

And I dig this doo-wop album by Frank Zappa:

Get a blast of this lot: Rocky Sharpe and the Razors split; half joined with the John Dummer Blues Band to form the doowop-influenced outfit Darts - one of the biggest charting U.K. bands of the seventies; the others became Rocky Sharpe and the Replays, also scoring several hits.
This is a song BW covered but their version lacks his profanities!

Whispering Bells by the Dell Vikings was one of the first doowop songs I (consciously) heard. Still love it. Great song! Ezra Furman — one of my favorite musicians in the world — performed a fine tribute to it on his song “Pot Holes.” (His older albums generally are full of spectacular nods to early rock & roll.) Let’s see how this mobile forum does with YouTube links:

Here's a fast Doo Wop song, "Speedo" by The Cadillacs. I love the way Martin Scorsese used the song in Goodfellas. I think The Beach Boys could've done a great cover of "Speedo".

Let’s see how this mobile forum does with YouTube links: I freakin love Ezra Furman, the entire Perpetual Motion People album is pure eclectic perfection, one of my go-to’s! Lots of fun doo-wop moments woven all through it. So glad to hear from another fan! We saw him at the Pinhook in Durham in 2016 with the room maybe a quarter full, which was sad, but he still put on a killer show.

The Longest Time is my favorite song by Billy Joel by far. It's an inspiring listen for me.

It's good song. The Crew Cuts did even better version, they sing it in relaxed mellow way, The Chords sound jittery, in a way. Anyhoo, welcome The Crew Cuts sh-booming

I heard this when it hit #2 in the US in 1961 (like pendlewitch several years later I was very very young at the time ) but its full glory didn't strike me until recently. "Daddy's Home" by Shep and The Limelites was part of pop's very first "song cycle" (see the link for the other five titles). It hits an absolute peak at the line "How I've waited for this moment" (at 2:06): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daddy%27s_Home_(song)

This is a little late in the doo wop game, but it's a great tune. This has a definite LA feel to it. Chicanos dug it.

In my view of things, doo wop kept going well into the '60s, maybe even later. Take the gorgeous 1963 original version of "Denise" by Randy & The Rainbows: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_%26_the_Rainbows

Here are two great favourites of mine. First, The Flamingos' otherworldly take on "I Only Have Eyes For You" (1959), one of my all-time favourite 45s. It was only in the '70s that anything remotely like it made an appearance, when Soul started baring its teeth, courtesy of The Dells and others: Second, The Elegants' "Little Star" from a year earlier, in the days when atmosphere counted more than being completely in tune:

According to The Capris, "There's A Moon Out Tonight", and who are we to argue with them? Years ago, we were in the area (of Capri) and almost all of our party elected to go there by boat. We and another couple stayed on the mainland and enjoyed a great meal together. Seems the boat trip was rough and everyone threw up.
