Mikie, you may wish to add this to your list. Carl Wilson's 1959 Harmony Sunburst Acoustic/Electric guitar, one of the first he ever owned. As of last year it was still hanging over the bar area in the Hard Rock Cafe, St Julian's , Malta. View AttachmentView AttachmentGuitar like that oughta be played, not displayed!

Surprised it's not displayed closer to home, around L.A. Or in the Rock and Roll Hall in Cleveland.

It seemed very much their prize exhibit, with multiple spotlights on it and in the most prominent area of the restaurant. I think Malta must have a decent Beach Boys following, because a couple of nights later when Julia and I were having dinner in nearby Sliema, the local water polo team were practising in the pool over the road from our table and their p.a. system blasted out the entire M.I.U. album. It sounded an unlikely choice of stirring, rousing music but it seemed to work as they were top of their league. Who needs cheerleaders when you've got Hey Little Tomboy? I love the Maltese people, me.

Known for it's ancient historic sites. Well, Carl's guitar is an ancient relic, isn't it? Wonder how they obtained it. I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that somebody running that Hard Rock is a big Beach Boys fan. MIU? They musta known you were in town, Pete.

As well as being a beautiful island, popular with holidaymakers from all over Europe, Malta is also a hub for ex-service personnel from WW2, especially US and Canadian veterans and their families. They visit the many bases used by the Allies during the Sicily and Italy campaign, and it's not difficult to find bars and restaurants owned and run by Americans on the island. So your theory about the Hard Rock Cafe in St Juliens might not be too far off the mark.
