Nice that there is some press on him but it is not the most accurate thing I have ever seen. And much discussion in the comments. They were not booed and college kids did not hassle them about the hits. They went nuts over them, after they played some of their more progressive 70s stuff. Thanks for posting the link. I do agree it is full of errors. Some good comments, but also some sad comments disparaging Dennis and his talent and The Beach Boys in general. I put my two cents in, anyway. Christ on a tandem, if you think the article is inaccurate, stay well clear of the comments - the general level of misinformation and flat-out stupidity is breathtaking (not yours, carllove, of course).

Here is the thing that you have to remember. Most people, when they tell a story that involves themselves as one of the main characters, are going to make themselves out a hero. JG wants to say his replacing Blondie was a good thing, making the group stick to mostly oldies was a good thing, etc etc.
Heck, there is a guy online who said the following:
The first time the Beach Boy's played together for several years was for the "Concert for America – A Tribute to Ronald Reagan". I was on the bus with Al, Bruce and Mike heading to Air Force 1 , and mentioned, how nice it was having Al back. "We should get the Real Beach Boys back together." I said, and the next thing I knew, Mike called and said the band was going to do a surprise appearance on The Grammys, recording their 50 year anniversary album and embarking on a Global tour. I like to think I had a hand in making this happen.
Sigh.........

Still remember being met in Wood Lane by my then-girlfriend, on getting back from a trip to the Lake District, to be told one of The Beach Boys (she thought Brian) had died while I’d been away (no internet then, and no TV where we’d been staying). Heartbreak when I got the papers and read the facts. Just stumbled over this on YouTube… well worth watching, for memories of Dennis and to see Billy Hinsche MC’ing proceedings, along with a raft of other familiar and not-so-familiar faces. Only just seen this, John. I was there that day. Hopped-over to the U.S. with the 'winnings' from my recently-lost job. Can't see me in the Bash film (I was in the back-room, discussing 'things'). It was a fantastic day, meeting Dennis' sons and hooking-up with the wonderful Ed Roach (amongst many others). A day I'll never forget.

Anyway, other than a couple of Carl Walks, not attending the Denny Bash at Chez Jay's was one of the worst decisions of my life.

Haha! .. Mikie .. alas, it was BB related 'stuff' .. more than that I cannot say. .. but my wife will attest to me being in the back room as she was out and about enjoying the day in and around Chez Jay's.
Something that I cherish to this day from that day, is Diane, Marilyn and Ginger signing the two Honey's CD's I'd bought with me .. and Marilyn and Diane signing my Spring CD, plus Dennis' sons signing my POB CD.

My best personal memory of Dennis was telling him how much I loved his solo album. His head literally snapped back and he stared at me before saying in an amazed tone "you KNOW that album?... Thanks man, that means a lot". Meant a lot to me too.

If he only knew how much this album, and the rest of his solo work that's been released more recently, mean to so many people these days and how it continues to amaze and fascinate...

Last pic of Dennis that I'm aware of was taken on September 26th 1983, at the last gig he played in Pomona. It shows him autographing a ticket, which the owner has framed with the pic. This is supposedly from that show:
