Very exciting stuff guys.
Matt posted on his Facebook that he's in the studio with Christian Love working on new music.
With #TheBeachBoys and #BeachBoys in his post.
Whether Matt is contributing to Christian's music (he has new stuff coming out, I do know that) or whether their contributing vocals/instruments to new BEACH BOYS music, I'm excited either way. Very cool for these two extremely talented second generation BBs to be working together. It also makes it seem like there's nothing but there's really nothing but love between the Love and Jardine camps by this point. They're on a separate trajectory, and each do things the way they like, with their respective bands, but I do think their feud that peaked in the 90's has simmered down. Yes, there's been a bit of post-C50 drama, but they seemed to be in good spirits together at the Grammy special, and have been reported to have friendly telephone conversations.
So what do you guys think? Are the working on solo stuff? Could it potentially be BBs related? Either way, I'm excited. Matt channels his father very convincingly, and (debated) but I think no one in the world can channel Carl like Christian does. But they both have their own unique voices in their own right. Should be cool !!!

Well this is what we're left with, other than copyright releases, just scraps. Enjoy.

Mr. Positivity, you ain't. It seems that it took up to 50 years for artists and record companies to finally realize that fans who have bought every single legitimate release and obsessively collected illegal bootlegs since the 1970s actually enjoy and treasure the outtakes and live recordings they have finally been releasing officially for the last few year, in these exciting times. One person’s scraps is another’s gold.

I can't be the only one that is excited about this and thinks its symbolic of some level of peace between the camps.
If it's solo stuff, that's still cool because their vocals blending will certainly be reminiscent of The BBs. I can't picture this happening in the early 2000's. But then again, despite us thinking of them as the 'kids' , CL and MJ are grown men now and they could feasibly be on better terms than their fathers. Happens all the time with everyday folks. After all, Christian and Matthew played together in the Cal Saga band during C50, and they played together in the CalSurfInc band for a while too, before they each became busy with their dads' groups respectively.
But I'm also reminded of when Scott Totten was brought in to do guitar overdubs on "Goin To The Beach" on MIC circa 2013. What if something similar is happening on the vocal side of things? If Scott played the lead guitar on GTTB, how much of a leap is it to have other current members and sons record new vocals on vault tracks? Afterall The BBs are a family band, and have always had an evolving lineup in the studio and onstage. What if songs that don't have leads, such as I've Got A Friend, were given lead vocals by the likes of Christian and Matthew?
A lot of people feel like within some time the live band might evolve into a group without any original members. Presumably led by family, or members of the BBs orbit. Some people are in favor of this and some are against it. But The BBs have essentially become their own economy. There are lots of people employed on the road, and therefore a ton of mouths being fed. Same with the studio and IP stuff. Alan and Mark with the production. Howie with the PR. Many more folks involved on different levels. And with the Iconic investment, I'm sure they've been happy to have multiple bands on the road promoting the brand. I can't imagine they'd want a scenario where there's no band on the road promoting the brand. That's one of the main channels of promoting a group is concerts.
Even if it was filling out vocals on partially finished tracks that are just missing sections or filling out backgrounds on studio recordings that could be cool. The families' voices sound particularly authentic, especially when they blend.
Then again, none of these predictions could come true and it could be something else. Even if its solo material, still super cool to have a Love and Jardine working together. Keepin The Summer Alive haha. Christian did preview that "Sum Sum Summer" song on the cruise, it would be cool if his material features other BB related musicians.
Also could it be for work Mike's album 'Mike Love Not War' though if it's already being advertised with tickets, I'd imagine the material had already been recorded.
Whatever it is, I'm excited! Like I always say, I'm happy for anything BBs related we can get!

I suspect that we have not heard the last of the band called the beach boys.

The song, "Sum Sum Summer," is being given a face lift. There are several COOL names associated with the recording.

Is this a known song? I have never heard of it. Sad to hear that the fashion among the Beach Boys and those associated with them for using so much Autotune in the studio that perfectly decent human voices sound like Speak 'n' Spells continues unabated. Saw them do this on the cruise in March and it was perfectly pleasant if unexceptionable, but this is literally unlistenable.

Pretty generic, to be honest (and sorry to say). Wasn't Surfin' kind of generic? Everyone starts somewhere...I'm very pleased to see an effort being made.

This next generation has been working in this genre of music for decades. It is not as though he came from punk rock or traditional country. This music is imprinted. I give them credit. They could not do music or take a swing at it with the experience and by now Matt is playing BB music for 3 decades. What area would you have them work in? And the band mentorship has been extraordinary.

Wait, I’m confused, is this link the final song? It was posted months ago. Or is there a new version on the way, with more members or something. If it’s the former, lame. But if this isn’t the final version being talked about, I’ll reserve judgment on that until it’s actually released.

Yes that was my question too as this is an old song that's been available for a while. If it's being remade I wonder if there are going to be guest appearances by any original Beach boys? Who knows what's up? Or is it a secret. Thank you so much.

Of course whenever The BBs or someone in The BBs camp returns to the surfin/summertime sound there will always be accusations of being generic. Whether its 15BO, SIP, LBWL, or one of the many other maligned albums, there's a tendency I've noticed where people throw a lot of criticism at stuff that is reminiscent of the classic surf era sound.
But this is the music that these guys have been surrounded by and performing for most of their lives. Mike & Brian singing Everly harmonies on the way home from Church, Carl & David learning surf guitar together, Bruce's early days with Spector & JanAndDean--- these guys were inspired so much by rock and roll and it was the catalyst that created The BB's. The Morgans weren't interested in the modern harmony routines as much as they were by Mike & Brian's surf ditty with three chords. Capitol signed them off the basis of SS/409. Rock And Roll is such a big part of their lives. Hell, the song "Rock And Roll Music" was their comeback hit!
And with their sons like Matt and Christian, they've been playing these songs on the road since they were both teenagers. They both certainly have chops in the BBs sound department. Whether its the way Matt's falsetto soars or the way Christian channels Carl through his singing and guitar playing, the music is in their DNA.
This is probably just the beginning. They still have lots of time to develop their own voices and grow as artists. And I think with all the craziness in the world right now, some happy music like "Sum Sum Summer" is just what the doctor ordered.
Stuff doesn't always need to have SMiLE level ambition to be a toe tapper.
Whether CL & MJ are working on solo music, or BBs related content, I'm happy they're making music, and even happier to see them doing it together. It makes me smile that even though Mike & Al might have their personal problems, The BBs are still a family. MJ & CL look like their dads in this picture. I can't be the only one that things its super heartwarming.
The classic BB/Surf sound is what made me, and most I'd assume, fall in love with The BBs in the first place. Nothing wrong with loving and embracing those sounds and themes.
I'm looking forward to hearing the results of their efforts!

My not liking it has nothing to do with what you just stated. The subject matter is fine. Playing is fine and the singing is fine. It’s just not a good song.

When the last original BB stops touring, that should be the end. If Cal Saga unites and celebrates the BB, I’m very cool with that. But no one, I mean no one is going to write a song like Brian.

You never know what songwriting talent will emerge from subsequent generations, given the DNA and on-the-job-training they have had. Maybe the originals were meteors, never to grace the planet but you never know. Hope springs eternal.

I seriously can't think of many things less exciting Beach Boys-wise than a report about their kids making music together. I'm a fan of The Beach Boys cuz of The Beach Boys, not cuz of their kids. I'm sure Matt and Christian are wonderful people, but who gives a shit about their music, unless it's in support of their fathers?

A perfectly valid opinion, but I guess it's not much different from any other backing band members releasing new material. That would probably be commented on as well.
