Not an answer to the exact question, but the only way I could see a new studio release at this point would be to assemble what’s left of the Beach Boys: Mike, Al, Bruce, David, Blondie perhaps with Matt, Christian or a couple of other younger voices. Have Brian “produce” them in some stripped down tasteful covers of some classic songs or deeper cuts. I doubt there’s much new material worth recording these days without calling up Joe Thomas to mine the protools vaults. I’m not sure Brian is up to singing these days but perhaps he might be up for directing a bit in the studio with help from Darian or somebody, and the odd vocal here or there.
It goes without saying that the window is closing on even this sort of lower key project, but it’s not impossible given that most of the guys are still performing and in good shape. Highly unlikely though.

Thanks, but no thanks. We have thousands of hours of indelible music available to us, which I'd suggest should be sufficient for us. If Brian, Al, Mike, Bruce and David find a way to work together again, that's fine. But anything else just isn't viable as a "Beach Boys" thing (at least as far as I'm concerned). Even though the odds are long, let's hold out for that scenario.

Disc 2 of Mike's 2017 release Unleash The Love isn't live but it might as well be because it features the current touring of that time on every recording. And "Wild Honey" features John Cowsill and Scott Totten. For that reason, there isn't really a need for anything else.
