Joel Embiid is out for at least a week with left knee soreness. Lovely.

But you've got Boban!
Our injury problems are finally almost behind us (knock on wood). For a while there, we had lost our top FOUR--count 'em, FOUR--point guards. We were down Teague, Rose, Jones, and even Bayless. And Covington hasn't played in weeks, which has really hurt: he was maybe our most important player right after the big trade. While Covington isn't expected back for a while yet, the PGs are all supposed to be back tonight, with Jones the only one who hasn't yet returned in some capacity.
Young Ryan Saunders is just a hair under .500 so far, which isn't bad considering the injury situation. It'll be interesting to see how it goes from here through the end of the season. Especially of interest around here is whether Luol Deng continues to get minutes, as he had the last few games before the break when Andrew Wiggins was out sick. (We won those games; Wiggins's absence was a good thing.)

Boban actually played really well last night in a win over Miami. It's just that I was hoping during these last 22 games for the Sixers to work on chemistry. I think that will be important during the playoffs along with health.
How has Dario Saric been playing lately?

He had a rough patch especially in January, but he was inserted to the starting lineup over Taj Gibson and had a decent February: just under 15 ppg, 7 rpg, and almost 2 apg as a starter in that time.

Yeah, Amir is a class act. However, after what happened to Boban last night, I don't think Amir is going to be playing any more G-League games soon.

When does Embiid return?
Scary having an injury-prone star. We experienced plenty of that with the Kevin Love/Ricky Rubio/Nikola Pekovic teams. They all missed tons of time.

Embiid was supposed to be out "for at least a week" to rest his knee. One week is up tomorrow. However, Embiid has already been ruled out of Thursday's game against The Thunder and Embiid's new nemesis, Russell Westbrook. I would expect Embiid to return Saturday night against Golden State. With the injury to Boban, that leaves Amir Johnson and Jonal Bolden to play center.
The good news is that Boban's MRI was negative and he shouldn't miss too much time. That was one of those scary rolling on the knee from the side injuries that you mostly see in football.

Bolden is also more of a face-up shooting forward, too, isn't he? Not exactly the guy you want manning the middle. I'd roll with Amir and probably see if Mike Scott can handle it. If Justin Patton healthy (for the first time in his professional life)? Not that he's ever played a meaningful minute...
Honestly? I'd give serious thought to running Simmons at C a little bit.
Boban getting hurt would scare me, too. Honestly 7-footers in general are scary from that perspective. The reality is, those guys--if they move around, if they play--end up with a huge amount of foot, leg, and back injuries. That size body just isn't made for run-and-jump, stop-and-start activity. But when he's healthy--and I believe he mostly has been up to now--he's a heck of a backup. Very skilled.

There was some talk about bringing Patton up from the G-League. He's been playing with the Delaware Blue Coats since early February, averaging 12 pts, 5 reb, and 2 blocks per game. I was a little surprised they didn't give him a shot, even just to get a better evaluation. The Sixers are going have to make a decision on him at the end of the year. I think he's an unrestricted free agent.
There actually have been some rumblings about giving Ben Simmons some time at Center, depending on the matchup(s).

Yes, Patton will be unrestricted after the season, because the Wolves chose not to take the third year the rookie contracts allow them. (Not a great sign for a mid-first rounder...)

Blast from the past - Andrew Bogut rejoining the Warriors. I miss that pre-KD Warriors squad.

If he’s healthy Bogut is an amazing backup center even at his age.

I thought Patton played well. Brett Brown used him for nine minutes, they were meaningful minutes; the game was close. He had 4 rebounds and 3 assists. He passed the ball well. One time he got the ball in the paint and started to make a move to the basket, and just as he was about to dunk it he got fouled. The first free throw was a nervous brick, but the second one was perfect.
I'd like to see him stick around but I think Brett Brown and Elton Brand prefer a more veteran backup center to Embiid. Also, Mike Scott has been playing some Center and not bad at all. I hope Patton continues to get more minutes. Embiid still isn't back. I'm getting a little worried. They have the second of a back-to-back tonight against the Bulls and then Houston on Friday.

SJS, you've got Embiid back!
We're STILL without Covington--that's 31 games now, I think, that he's missed--and have added both Andrew Wiggins and KAT to the list of missing players. Granted, missing Wig has been a net positive. Rookie Keita Bates-Diop has been shockingly effective after virtually no meaningful minutes all season, but with no Covington, no Wig, and with Luol Deng out too, the options are limited. He has scored 30 of his 65 points and grabbed 11 of his 34 rebounds in the past two games.
Basically, we're sputtering. There are good days, good vibes (KAT has been amazing since the All-Star break), but some bad losses, too, especially on the road. It's going to be yet another interesting offseason for the Wolves.

Yeah, Embiid's back (for now) but they still need a lot of work, especially defensively. They play well for spurts, but then at crunch time they are being exposed. They have about a month left to gel and get ready for the playoffs. Brett Brown is still working on combinations.
I was going to post last week...The Sixers lost to the Bulls last week and do you know who killed them? Zach LaVine. He went for 39 points. They couldn't stop him! He's having a great year but now I see he's hurt.
Bates-Diop and Okogie are playing well aren't they? Getting more minutes?

With Bates Diop it’s just the past two games, where we were down so many forwards. But he has definitely stepped up, especially considering how little he’d played up to now.
Okogie has been fun to watch, though a little maddening. His energy and athleticism are top notch, which is just great to see, especially considering we’re so used to low-effort Wiggins. But his shot and handle have a long way to go. Still, I’m pleasantly surprised with him.

So much for our little winning streak: we lost two more point guards to injury, so we were without Teague, Rose, Covington, and Deng against Denver, and lost the game.
