This really pains me to write this, but what the hell.
Brian is coming to my city this weekend and talking with several of the band members, it seems Brian is having a really good time doing these shows.
BUT, I have decided not to attend his show because, well frankly, I think it is WAY too expensive. Brian usually plays the smaller venues when he comes to Houston. But because he is with Chicago, they opted for a large outdoor setting. Now this is the same setting The Beach Boys were at for their 50th Anniversary show. And at this venue, the best place to sit and see the show (because of obstacles that are placed around the theatre) is down in the pit. My wife and I paid (yes I know this was ten years ago) $235 a ticket for the BB 50th. But that was with the VIP pass. This year, with no VIP, just the actual tickets themselves, it is $485 a ticket for seats in the same row. With everything else going on in the economy, it seems out of line to charge this much. But hey, people can charge what they want, and there seems to be very few tickets left, but it is hard to tell if that is because the actual tickets have been purchased, or it ticket agencies have snapped them up.
Anyway, just wondered what others thought of the prices being charged now.

It is a lot of money, I agree there. Then you have to think about how much 'air time' is that for Brian's performance. An hour and a half maybe? How many songs does Brian actually sing in the show these days if he sings at all? From those clips on youtube, Brian seems fairly disengaged just in the small samples on offer. But, the flip side of that, he is in your town... If it wasn't a big stretch on the money, I'd go. I've never been to a show, even if it wasn't brilliant, and regretted going, to which point, I don't even think about the money. If you don't go, you'll never know, and I you 'might' be sorry later. The clock is ticking too, when will you get any other possible opportunity?

$485?!?!? No way. Not because I wouldn’t want to see Brian (though given the propensity for cancelling U.K. tours, I’ll probably never get the chance again anyway), but because I genuinely couldn’t afford even one ticket (and the entire family would want to come along too).
And I’m really sorry about that. I miss the days when it was almost second nature to attend a BW gig at every opportunity, when hanging out with the band after the show was a regular deal…
I decided a while back that I’d attended my last BW show due to the decline in his ability to perform but, know what, I’d reverse that for a chance to see him and that knockout band once more, it’s been way too long.
But at that price I’d have to turn away.

$485 is insane. Insane, I tells ya. They should take a hint from Mr. Love. My seat the other day was only $60, but in all fairness the actual seat was a plastic deck chair.

Think I paid 125 for a seat in section A but rather off to one side of the stage at the Greek Theater for mike. I think the ones more toward the center where 300 and further down the front actually over a thousand but I'm not really sure.
It depends on what you believe you're paying for. I've seen Brian twice and I've seen Mike and Bruce once. I should say that Al was with Brian when I saw him one of those times.
I've seen al's individual show twice and I saw three shows with the reunited Beach Boys for the 50th anniversary.
All the shows with divided band members can be worth it as long as you know you're seeing one partial show which is not a reunion and you're going to see what this particular band does.
for me it's particularly hard not to sit there and just say why aren't they all together why aren't they all together? so if you think the experience in and of itself, However limited and confined and however fraught with tensions and divisions in Beach Boys history, then it can be worth it.
I have an internal sense of something under $200 fitting into that category , but if the five Beach Boys got back together again I'm sure I would think much less about price because that's going to be hey final opportunity for sure but that again is just pure imagination.
If you go alone to a show that keeps it limited but if you're talking about a group or a date or a family or going with friends, and you're talking about grabbing dinner beforehand or eating at the venue, and if you're talking about parking and otherwise Transportation, then depending on where you live and where the venue is you could be looking at a $500 night or more which is not something to be taken lightly for working people for sure.

Having just seeing Brian perform in Kansas City - I don’t blame you for the hesitation. I paid $130 each for center box tickets 16 rows back at Starlight. That was worth it for me, but even then, you will be lucky to hear Brian sing much, if at all. Blondie was on fire though. I’d save my money, since you’ve seen him before. No way I’d pay that much for a ticket. The set in Kansas City was only 21 songs.

I'm gonna start calling Brian the King of the Poker Face, because I keep reading that he loves these tours, and yet every video clip i see of him, he looks miserable. Doesn't sound good, either. If I want to see a show by a guy who looks like he hates being onstage, I'll go see Bob Dylan.

I remember when you could go see The Beach Boys for under $5 a ticket and get seats close to the stage. I miss the old local indy promotion and ticket sales system. There are some acts I've never seen due to unaffordable ticket prices (Rolling Stones, I'm talking about you).

We’ve talked about this many times already but I will say again-personally I am satisfied with the shows I saw of Brian and the BBs and probably won’t see anymore shows by any of them but if you have any interest in going than you probably should-value is complicated because the reality is that I cannot see Brian touring too much longer-this could be the last time you get a chance.

If it is someone else's he or she needs to know that a replacement for Dr Landy is not necessary
