Every Brian Wilson song on the “Surfin’ Safari” LP other than “Surfin’,” “Surfin Safari,” and “The Shift,” were co-written by Gary Usher. After that, Murry Wilson aced Usher out, leaving the previously written “Lonely Sea,” and “In My Room,” to be the only further Wilson-Usher collaborations to appear on Beach Boys albums.
I wonder what subsequent Beach Boys albums would have been like if Murry hadn’t interfered with the songwriting.

Care to make a small wager on that ? Say... $100,000 ? No, make it a round million. I'll take it in installments.

jk, real good quote from Lambert on "The Shift"! Thanks! I've always liked this record. I liked it when I was a kid (and it was old then) and my folks got it for me because I liked Surfin' Safari on the radio. And I liked it years later when I really got into the band. I remember listening to it voluntarily in the car and truly enjoying it, just about every track -- even Cuckoo Clock! I still think it's a charming and enjoyable album, and I'd say I like every track on it. I like hearing the performances from before they were seasoned recording musicians.

I've got a strange copy of Surfin' Safari, and I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar experience.
British collectors might be familiar with the Greenlight reissue of the album. Released in 1981, it's a "stereo" (read: duophonic) version of the album sans 2 tracks (Surfin' and Cuckoo Clock). It is easily identified by the green triangle on the upper right corner of the jacket.
My copy is ostensibly one of these, but upon listening it becomes clear that something is up. For a start, my copy has all 12 tracks in their original 1962 order. Not only that, the disc is a mono copy of the album. A look at the dead wax shows 2 matrix numbers. One is the expected "GO 2014 A-1N", but the second is the "T1-1808-1N" of the original UK issue. Very odd.
If I had to guess, whoever was producing this reissue wound up using some surviving stampers from the original UK issue and didn't notice or care that they had a different running order. Does anyone else have a Greenlight issue that they would care to check? I'm wondering how common this issue is.
