There is a guy who has a Beatles auction house called Parlogram Auctions who does (what I think, being the nerd I am) really cool videos about Beatles releases, discussing master tapes, etc. I have watched all of his vids and find them really interesting from a Beatles perspective.
The reason I bring this up here is the fact that about a month ago, he posted a video talking about how to make the Beatles music sound fresh from a new generation that has never probably owned a real stereo, etc. He then goes into great detail about DOLBY ATMOS and remixing the Beatles catalog for that platform. Sounds like this is the direction that all catalogs are moving, including our own BB5. Here is the video I am alluding to.

It's an..."interesting"...set--must be reflective of some amount of behind-the-scenes wrangling.
One of my Dad's favorite tracks, "The Little Girl I Once Knew," is sadly missing from the track list.
Did I see somewhere that the 3-CD version of this set would be available for $30? If that's right, it sounds like the best deal by far.

It’s so absolutely bizarre, the pricing for this set. The CDs are reasonable, $13 for the one CD, $29 for the three CD. The LPs though… $199 for 6? And one of the LP sides is completely blank? Its literally the opposite of Feel Flows, where the LPs were priced reasonably ($79-99 for four LP) but 5 CDs was $149 officially. Anyway for people who are still into physical media, that $29 3 CD is an absolute steel.

I know for fact it's going appear on tidal. Just that one Good Vibrations sounds absolutely fantastic on Tidal.
That service by the way is 20 quid per month and boy it really is worth it

They’re using the Feel Flows mix of Cotton Fields with (what sounds like) a young boy doing a count-in at the start. Ew.

3CD set on Amazon UK is £20.99, which just kicks it into the free postage realm.

I see they're saying Sounds of Summer has gone four times platinum in the current 60th promo material, so being me, I checked the RIAA site. Maybe, hopefully, Capitol have asked for a new audit (the last one was in 2012) and it's in the process of being updated but currently it's still listed as platinum x3. Frankly, I'd be astonished if it hadn't sold the equivalent of 4 million copies.

TLGIOK - my coup de foudre, struck-by-lightening from a 1” AM transistor radio to this BB sphere in fall of 1965. Heard it live at a C50 sound check. What were they thinking? Maybe they should check in here, for a little pre-emptive feedback, before coming up with a track list to release. Where are those TLGIOK sessions? I would buy it just for those. Not every BB song blew out of the gate like a champion race horse; some of the greats, stalled, and had multiple releases such as Sail on Sailor.

On the lack of TWGMTR tracks, maybe they’re planning a 10th anniversary deluxe release?
Maybe not…

Not sure why this keeps happening, unless Brian's developed one of his weird aversions to the track. What difference does that make? The song appears on the 2fers, The Platinum Collection, The 30 Years of Good Vibrations box set, and probably other collections I’m too lazy to look up.

The song probably just didn’t make the tracklist because it didn’t make the tracklist. Highly doubt there’s any conspiracies working against it or something.

I get confused with remastering mixing and all this other stuff. But I played Good Vibrations many times in my car very good stereo and boy it sounded like the best version I've ever heard before.

On the earlier releases of GV, I always loved how Carl’s “I” just kind of hung out there in space as the song begins. These louder remasters make it sound more abrupt. It loses that airy-ness.

I'll tell you, I went back and forth between the sounds of Summer Good Vibrations and they brand new one and it is indeed true that in one of them Carl says I love the colorful clothes she wears and in the other one he says I love the colorful clothes she wear. For those of us that love listening to music but are not audio files or professional technicians, how does something like this happen? quote author=" drbeachboy (Dirk)" source="/post/52784/thread" timestamp="1651275087"] I get confused with remastering mixing and all this other stuff. Do You Like Worms (Roll Plymouth Rock) [2021 Stereo Mix] This is what I’m here for. I back that, I'll shove it on my SMiLE mix if it's good enough, which I'm sure it will be. I like this new mix of GV for the sheer clarity of the backing track, and the 'spaciousness' of it, all 'round. Warmth of the Sun remix is also what I'm after, and Do It Again, and the two CATP tracks. Based on the Mess of Help track on Feel Flows, I bet it's going to sound fab.

Heh. Last time around there were boiling pools of hatred BECAUSE OF the remixes. "THEY'RE FORCING ME TO BUY THE SAME STUFF OVER AND OVER!! WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"
Just listened to the new "Good Vibrations" over headphones. It sounds like it's actually not an extraction mix, but just a play-it-safe mix from the multitracks: all vocals center, instruments panned. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but it's less harsh on the ears than the previous mix, which was an extraction.
They're extracted vocals from the mono mix synced to a backing track mixed from the multitracks, besides the organ bridge, which uses the single-tracked vocals that exist on a partial safety copy multi as opposed to an isolation. Thanks for this. One of the most useful posts of the thread - just what I wanted to know. I can hear subtle differences; something's buried in the mix that I'm use to being more prominent. So it was remixed last year by Mark Linett with extraction technology and mastered by Joe Gastwirt (another well-known name in Beach Boys mastering credits). There's been so many "stereo" releases of Good Vibrations over the years, including viable fan mixes that could pass for the real deal. One of the most unfortunate circumstances of the Beach Boys recording catalog is the loss of the original multi-tracks to allow for a true stereo version of the song. But I'm not sure that even if they did find the original multi-tracks and put a 'legitimate' stereo Good Vibrations together, that these mature ears could tell a dramatic difference to previous formal released and unreleased versions. I remember reading fan reviews on message boards over the years concerning previous Linett-released stereo versions. Some say some songs are too wide in the separation and some say other songs are too narrow. I think maybe it depends on the stereo system it's played back on. Can't please everybody so ya got to......please yourself. Who said that?

I had to pass out a poll to the students with questions about what they thought of the class. I was downgraded for "length of the class" - but nobody said whether it was too long or too short. So the next time I taught the class, I asked the students, if they didn't like the length of the course, to say whether they thought it was too long or too short. Half the students thought it was too long, the other half thought it was too short. (So I left it the same).
