What happened to that video? This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by brother records inc. Yes, that is what appears over the former video space but I can't imagine why those interviews - unless they were being prepared for some use for a documentary of its own - would trigger that. But there must be some reason. There was such respect for his work, and that almost has an "educational use" when others in the industry are so forthright about discussing it on the record. That is real 1st hand information - not a spin from a public relations agency or second-hand hearsay, such as "I heard Carl was very respected." This is straight from the source.

I don't know about the YouTube version, but the video at one time had an unreleased Carl track on it, which is probably why it got pulled.

Emdeeh - we were so incredibly lucky to grow up alongside this music and probably countless concerts seeing Carl go from the kid in the striped shirt to an adult becoming the de facto band leader. Never mind the voice. From what I’ve observed - it seems that Dennis is viewed as a sort of James Dean legend but without that advantage of seeing Carl live, it seems hard to get their arms around how he really fit in the band and how he was so highly regarded by his peers in the music world. Carl seems to be viewed almost in the abstract, as opposed to this movie star thing that trails Dennis. And, I was more concerned about young people learning about Carl not just through the tracks, but also how esteemed by his peers, so he becomes less abstract, and so that younger people who are interested in this band, can get to know Carl, or even get a glimpse, through the eyes of his peers and family, through those candid interviews. An unreleased track of course must be protected, but the interviews are priceless and a great teaching tool.

Dennis Wilson interview by Pete Fornatale, 1976 Hey it just occurred to me that I've got the second follow-up Dennis/Pete Fornatale interview from 1977 where they discuss POB and the potential breakup of the Beach Boys. I can post it to my YT interviews channel if there's any interest.

Here you go!
Listening back as I was editing out the music, this is a fascinating interview. Dennis gets into so much relevant (as of 1977) stuff that virtually everything he says is significant. Hopefully you all will enjoy it as much as I do. If you do, you may want to consider subscribing-- it's still a baby channel right now, but I will be uploading rare artist interviews weekly for at least another year or so until I run out of content, and there's already some pretty good ones up there. Thanks.

Thanks for posting. He's pretty open, isn't he? And his voice doesn't sound like the ravaged one on some of the Bambu tracks.

Thanks for posting. He's pretty open, isn't he? And his voice doesn't sound like the ravaged one on some of the Bambu tracks. That's an interesting point you bring up, Ed. I feel like in terms of the backing tracks, Dennis was very, very close to having Bambu completed. Or maybe a better way to put it is that there are at least twelve releasable backing instrumentals there, since obviously none of us know how he intended the album to go. But clearly (to my way of thinking) Dennis needed to recut several of his lead vocals and just simply ran out of time once the studio was sold off to Tom Scott and company. The question for me is: do his Bambu vocals sound so ragged because of physical degradation from 1977 to 1978, or because a lot of them are just basic guide vocals or first takes? It's confusing because he sounds great on, say, "Wild Situation", but I believe that was cut during the POB era with coaching from Bob Rose. It would be enlightening to hear some of the POB work-in-progress vocals to hear how they stack up against what we know of Bambu. My guess would be that some of them were pretty rough as well.

That Dennis interview is so tragic to me because it highlights how together and strong he was in 1977 and yet within a year he’d be in a real downward spiral that he never really came back from. Clearly some major emotional problems, exacerbated by the drugs and alcohol surfaced after that

Never seen this one before, from 1979, an interview with the boys in Japan.....and Brian's there. The audio is difficult to pick out, and Brian looks well, albeit non engaging.

Yeah I mentioned this appearance in an article I wrote for ESQ -without a doubt one of the most awkward TV appearances ever by the group. A strange setup. They spend a lot of time talking in Japanese while the group just sits looking befuddled and then occasionally lob a question in English at them-which are mainly about their thoughts on Japan. Weird format for sure

I won't trawl through to see if this has been posted before, quite frankly seeing it once is quite enough.🤣 Anyway I'm sure they had fun making it. Again saved by Carl's vocal, when it comes in..Als Hair/wig. Terrible video but I think they do justice to the song

Yeah this video is an example of why it was difficult to be a 19 year old fan of The Beach Boys at that time….Friends just shook their heads…fatally uncool

On the other hand there is something endearing about the BBs disinterest in trying to fit in to what is cool…I love the Stones but there is something ridiculous about 75 year old guys with dyed (if their hair is real) hair, still wearing leather pants and trying to look of the moment. Of course Charlie Watts is having none of that nonsense and to my mind has looked far more dapper these last 20 years with his natural white hair and crisp suits

Posted 8 years ago and only 800+ views.. Shocking. Dennis singing Angel Come Home. YouTube could be tampering with that “views” thing. I put nothing past big tech. It seems ridiculous even if was only the real geeks clicking and listening. 800 views makes zero sense to me.
