My name is Archie and I'm a 25 year old university student from the Philippines and I love the Beach Boys to death. This past year has been very tough, but their lyrics and harmonies provided sunshine in my worst times. I signed up to this board because I love talking about things that I love, there's not a lot of Beach Boys fans around here so here I'm looking for buddies and pals to talk about my favorite band. I don't know what else to put here so here are some of my opinions:
Love You is my favorite album of the Beach Boys next to Pet Sounds. It took me a while to love it, I actually didn't like the lyrical approach of the album initially but it eventually clicked hard. All songs on it are great, even Ding Dang. My favorite albums from non-beach personnel are Blood on the Tracks, Kid A, Close to the Edge, Powerslave, The Wall, and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
My favorite Beach Boys song is Brian's 1975 demo of In the Back of my Mind. Makes me cry every time I listen to it.
My favorite version of Smile is the 2004 one. I've been on other Beach Boy boards on the internet and many think that the 2004 version is inferior because of Brian's aged voice. I can see why they think that, but for me, Brian's voice on that record rocks hard and the album really benefits from sounding complete compared to Sessions (which I love too).
My favorite Brian solo record is Orange Crate Cart. I haven't dabbled in the other boys' solo works so maybe I can get some recommendations hehe.
15 Big Ones and MIU are really underappreciated.
I miss Brian's falsetto.
Mono Pet Sounds is the way to go.
My favorite vegetable is the classic corn.
Hopefully I can meet some new friends here, thanks for having me!

Hi, qc, and welcome! Nice to see some love for OCA. That's one I keep returning to -- it has such a wonderful vibe. As for other solo stuff, Dennis's lone album Pacific Ocean Blue is a must-hear.

Archie, welcome to the EH Forum! We have members from almost all of the world, but I'm pretty sure you're the only one here who's from the Philippines. Like you, I really miss Brian's falsetto too. Unfortunately, an integral part of the original Beach Boys harmonies was lost in the mid-70's when his voice changed. And Pacific Ocean Blue? Absolutely without a doubt, essential listening!
