FEEL FLOWS Q&A with MARK LINETT and ALAN BOYD - Aug 17, 2021

I'm getting a question in early since I won't be able to make it to the Q&A.
With the sublime new acapella mix for 'Til I Die, I noticed that the "lead" was pulled back by the end to leave the backing parts on their own. I'm wondering if this is the model for future acapella mixes you'll be doing? I for one would love to hear something similar done for Surf's Up, letting each individual track of the coda be heard on its own (possibly tacked on to a release of Brian's lead on its own).

The Q&A will be the middle of the night for me, so here's an off-the-wall question/suggestion:
Wouldn't a Carl & Passions/Holland-era box be the perfect place for a bonus disc of the Flame recordings - the album that came out, plus whatever work was done on a second album? Carl was the producer, after all . . . There are some very dubious CD versions of the LP available, but I'd love to hear a remastered set.

Is it possible we could ever see a future release of the track Silly Walls?

From Hank Briarstem -- Can each of you mention two or three moments in this set when you feel those of us who listen will say "wow!"?

We don’t think the Flame material would fit in the context of a BB 1972 box - we have a lot of Beach Boys to cover there - but we are looking at ways to get the Flame tracks out there. Especially that unreleased 1971 album, which is really good!

Mark, good to see you tonight. Hi Alan.
Capitol/Universal has deleted all physical configurations of "The Smile Sessions." I know they're quick to eliminate physical product from their catalog these days. But geez, the most-fabled unreleased LP in pop music history didn't even get a decade in print. As the producer/engineer of these reissues, any comment? Any chance of re-release or somebody like Analogue Productions issuing the "Smile" stuff?
Also, the sonics (aside from the engineering aspects) of "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up" are so different. I've always wondered if "Sunflower" was recorded on Scotch recording tape and "Surf's Up" on Ampex.
Thanks for all your great work over the years.

People on this board who have heard it say that the i’ve got a friend backing track goes over four minutes. Is it possible we could ever hear the entire thing, as it seems to have been significantly shortened on this set? Same with Old Movie

Have you considered approaching Rhino/the Grateful Dead organization to obtain soundboard recordings from ‘71 where The Beach Boys sat in with the Dead for a few songs? Could be a fun treat for the next box.
Non-Feel Flows era question: Mark mentioned removing layers of production when working on the new box set. Do you suspect that Mike’s primitive Knebworth auto-tune could be wiped? Or is that in his signal chain on the tape? Thanks!

Hank!!
Hmmm…
Hearing IT’S NATURAL and the WON’T YOU TELL ME demo session for the first time, on the feel of tape that Don Goldberg brought in. Had NO idea those even existed.
Dennis’ ALL OF MY LOVE/ECOLOGY, and discovering the roots of RIVER SONG in that cut.
The alternate mix of COOL COOL WATER. Same track, same parts, different mix choices.
