Probably the most polarizing BB album in their entire catalogue. Very few people (and I'm one) say they "like" it....most either love it to death or totally despise it. Yes, the best songs on here should've been redone with better production & vocals, and some of the weaker songs could've been swapped out with FAR better things from the archive, but even with those flaws this holds up as one of their last (though not THE last) truly worthy non-archival releases. It’s amazing how many Beach Boys albums are polarizing, among fans. Personally, I dislike Party, though many people think it’s great. In fact, every album from Smiley Smile through Summer in Paradise have gems and yet are essentially fatally flawed in some way.

I mean, aside from that piece of cornball by Bruce called "Deirdrie".

Speaking for myself, the Bruce Johnston songs really hurt it (except for "Nearest Faraway Place", I am not a fan of his songwriting...though his vocal work is decent). I'm sure many here will violently object and say Sunflower is a perfect or near-perfect album, but even Sunflower could have been improved greatly by swapping out a few songs. Would have been a FAR better album with things like "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" and "Walkin'" in place of the Johnston songs,IMO.

Actually, I particularly dislike “Got to Know the Woman,” “It’s About Time,” “Deirdre,” “Tears in the Morning,” and don’t care for “Slip On Through.” In fact, anything not written by Brian Wilson on this album is crap in my opinion (other than “Forever,” I guess, though I think Brian had a lot to do with the arrangement). And don’t say I’m a Dennis Wilson hater, because I do love his songs on Friends and 20/20. I don’t know what happened to him after that.

So you're not a POB lover, either?

So I shouldn’t have said “I don’t know what happened to him after that.”

"Deirdre" is OK but a bit too sugary sweet bubble gum. "Tears In The Morning" is just a whiny "feel sorry for yourself" buzzkill. I think Bruce did redeem himself on the next album though with "Disney Girls".
