Just got enough time to post this before I have to hit the road. Two lucky dudes welcoming Brian to the UK Stomp Convention ’88. Not sure who was crapping themselves more – us two or Brian. That handshake of his was clammy as hell and he was shaking like a leaf. And loitering in the wings with Tony Rivers and his band is the enigmatic Kevin Leslie, long blond hair and shades. He seems to be operating one of the many recording devices that were secreted about his person that day, although why he shoved it down there is anybody’s guess. Either that or he’s doing something equally shifty with that left hand. There’s a bit more fun to be had with Kev and Eugene that day in a post from a couple of years ago:
And barnsy, you weren't the only one I had to turf out of the bogs that day - sheesh, the number of blokes preening themselves with their newly bought T-shirts when the place is about to go mental
Great pic, especially as I can see myself in it, great memories. Signed poster still on display.

I've heard a lot about John Porteous. Didn't he used to run the Pet Sounds store in Newcastle?
Nice avatar, Chuck's Rewind! Looks like Brian, Gary Usher and is that Landy or somebody else?

Had the same t-shirt (same source too). A girl I knew asked me if it was Mickey Rourke. It didn't work out. Would you believe me that I still have that black and white Brian T shirt from J.P..... and a pets sounds one... fully intact AND wearable! I'd believe you on the Brian T-shirt as apart from a few holes mine is still wearable (as modelled by one of my daughters in my avatar pic).

Lonesurf, you were at the ESQ convention in 1990 too, right? What do you remember? Were you also at the 1992 BB Convention? A lot of it is hazy, but I still remember that the buzz before Brian showed … it was a very open secret that something big was gonna happen! I have a photo with BW somewhere (also one with a blonde Landry)! Everyone was scrambling for photos… this was before cell phones… can you imagine, lol. I was also at a Beach Boys Britain convention the year after Brian appeared (lol) … still a fantastic time. I came home with some Mike Kowalski drumsticks! The ‘92 convention was a blast… late night listening parties (to shoeboxes full of cassettes) by some motel pool. I pity the non-fan guests who had to listen to us debate the merits of the Tri-Five until four AM. I went to a couple of Rick Colville’s conventions in NJ as well. Jeff Foskett played one … great times. I was hoping that there might be a kind of de facto convention during the 2012 tour (like the get-togethers during the week of the Smile debut in 2004), but … at least I got to see a couple of shows. I happened to be backstage when Mike came into Brian’s dressing room after one show, early in the tour, to tell him that the Radio album had debuted at #3 on the charts. They hugged. Very cool. This all reminds me that I’ve been very blessed… and that I’m getting very old … ha!

John's a great guy, known him for over 40 years, still can't understand a word he's saying (Geordie). He's had some very bad times over the last few years but seems to be coming through. Lovely guy, great fan and a huge collector in his day.
