A 1982 comp that issued the later 1960s tracks that Capitol had just reacquired after 10 years of leasing to the Beach Boys/Warner Brothers. Also where the dumb asses at the Tower should have gone in the mid-80s to get the correct mono version of WIBN instead of using that rough mix that would find it's way on to SO MANY OTHER comps, including the Sampler and Absolute Best series that was meant to shine a light on the new remasters that Mark did. Mark found the correct version of WIBN, and CAPITOL STILL used the wrong mix to highlight Mark's work. What a bunch of (*(#*(&*!!!!

When I first decided to explore The Beach Boys in 1989 as a 14-year-old, I went to the public library. This was among the albums I checked out.
I found it to be quite an interesting compilation. At the time I hadn't yet heard Pet Sounds, and Sunshine Dream gave me a good opportunity to get a sampling of it. I remember being amused by "Vegetables." Seriously, this is a really good compilation of the later-era Capitol recordings.
Now...about that cover...hmmm...well, my wife always makes reference to the "sinister hot dog" -- that is, the hot dog dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and selling...hot dogs...yeah, this is a weird album cover!
But I do spin the album occasionally.

I bought the album when it first came out, but never listened to it after one play. It seemed pointless, since I’d rather just play Pet Sounds, Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Friends and 20/20 in their entirety. I don’t need to have somebody edit those albums to two disks and shuffle the songs around.

It was a good follow up to ENDLESS SUMMER and SPIRIT OF AMERICA. Imagine the joy of discovery for a youngish fan only vaguely familiar with the 1966-69 era. Gold Mine.
