As mentioned in my first post I started out on my BB fandom when I purchased 20 Golden Greats in early ’77 (aged 14), which I proceeded to play to death. I subsequently got John Tobler’s book and the fandom increased further when I bought Pet Sounds as a result of reading it (I then subjected my grandmother to a listening session, explaining why it was so great lol) - lots more LPs and books followed of course.
After their address was printed on the back of the KTSA album I subscribed to BB Stomp and attended the conventions each year (also attending BBB events when they started happening) – such a great time meeting with other fans and coming home with various goodies (like the tie-dye Smile T-shirt made and sold by Darian, which sadly fell apart from being worn and washed so much).
Another avenue opened up with going online in ’96 or thereabouts – Mike Wheeler’s Cabinessence board was an early discovery followed by things like the PSML and the Usenet groups – pre-internet feels like a different world now. Concerts as well, including Brian’s BWPS premiere, but I later cooled on live appearances, not going to the 2012 reunion nor anything since. Still love the music though and after quite a few years of being a passive lurker maybe it’s time to be an active celebrant again.

Barnsy, welcome to the Endless Harmony Forum! I, too, use to cruise around the Cabinessence board for a few years way back when. I'm glad you've joined us and I'm looking forward to your posts here!

Thanks Mikie! Were you on the Cabinessence board at the time of Carl's passing? I was part of a telephone tree where the sad news was disseminated among the UK fans and it was a long time before there was anything online about it, until official confirmation came in the form of a post from Carnie Wilson on the board (obviously I respect the family making the news public whenever they felt it was appropriate). The evening of the day I found out I went to see the High Llamas (where they were the support act) and wondered if Sean O'Hagan knew - I passed by him in the Gents just before they were due on stage and as it would have been inappropriate to say anything about it at that particular time I simply wished him a good performance.

Thanks Mikie! Were you on the Cabinessence board at the time of Carl's passing? I first started reading Beach Boys boards around 1997. Back then I was reading a message board/site every day called "Green Mansions". Then maybe around 1998 or 1999 I started reading and contributing to the Cabinessence (white) board. I wasn't a part of the Carl phone tree though after he passed away. Was unable to attend all of the Carl Walks for Cancer in Southern California and still regret it now.

Ah yes, remember it well - started by Annie Wallace IIRC. She always had a soldering iron in her bag, which came in handy at one BBB event when said item was used to fix a malfunctioning loudspeaker threatening to derail proceedings (Edit - I should add that AGD has previously related this anecdote as he was also there!). I hear you on the regrets but the Walks you were able to attend must be something to cherish nevertheless. I still have a T-shirt which was made for the Sunday October 3rd 1999 Malibu event (it was a raffle prize, I've never been to the US).

Welcome to the EH board, from the top end of Yorkshire (Ingleton). Thank you! I've been in Yorkshire nearly 37 years, which is not bad going for a Lancashire lad (from when Liverpool and Warrington, another childhood abode, were still in that county anyway).

Welcome, barnsy. I didn't get an in-home computer until 2005, so missed some early internet experiences. But, it's all cool, we're here now!
I actually learned how to operate a computer, taking classes in the late '80s, but the machines were way too expensive to own one. I'm slow to pick up new tech. Still only have a landline telephone, but am on my 3rd personal computer - XP, Win7, and Win10.
As for concerts, it was easy when I was young. Now it's complicated. Now with Covid, even more so. I have tickets for Sam Beam (my favorite modern performer) next month, 13 November at the old Woodstock site in Bethel. He's the only artist I'll go out of my way to see on a regular basis. He had set up a series of shows in the Northeast last June after cancelling his local to me show in 2020. At the time it looked like Covid might be under control... not anymore. Now it will be showing my vax-card at the door, and wearing a mask all night.
I think it may be my last live concert. If an artist would just release complete shows on DVD... but they don't. It's not the same kind of experience, but from the comfort of my home is a big plus. Here, I can have a drink that doesn't cost $10 bucks, and I can smoke...stuff. Much more fun!

Thanks for the welcome! My first PC had Windows 3.1, and we still used MS-DOS for a number of things (like moving some parts of the OS into HIMEM so we had enough memory to play games). Hope you will still be able to enjoy the concert.

Filledeplage has a good tip: invest in a face shield for concerts. It's less impersonal and gives you a feeling of eye contact with the performers -- and with your fellow music fans. It's worth considering. But best to take a mask with you as well...
