Oddly enough the best thing to come from this album was a track that wasn't even recorded for this album: The Beach Boys guesting on backing vocals for Colin Raye's version of "Winter Wonderland". I know I've mentioned it on here before and while it doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel, it's at least a totally pleasant version boosted by the Beach Boys' harmonies. A, your video is "not available", so here's another upload. "Totally pleasant" fits the bill perfectly! Hmmmm...that's weird. I changed the link out to the direct YT Music version. Hopefully that fixed it!

Just curious but did that team-up with Status Quo on their cover of "Fun, Fun, Fun" take place before or after they did S&S? Was just revisiting that version the other day. And while this version isn't exactly mindblowing I'd say it easily beats the cover of this song they did on the country album. Hell, Mike even throws in a brand new verse! They even got Brian to join them in the video below.

You can file this under "A reunion nobody asked for but still a pleasant one". Lorrie Morgan did join Mike's group on stage a year or two ago to perform "Don't Worry Baby" with them. You can watch it here at the 5:47 timestamp:

I don't know how to grade this album (I grade things all day so I'll demur on my hobbies) but I actually quite enjoy it. I picked up a copy a few years ago, basically expecting a good laugh.
Although I consider myself someone who enjoys country music (of the Burrito Brothers type), except for Willie Nelson and Timothy Schmidt, I had no idea (or barely any idea) who any of these people were.
The album hits a bit of a rut in the middle. "Help Me Rhonda" has some kick, but it's preceded by some fairly anonymous stuff. I do think the album ends strongly with the Troccoli and Schmidt tracks (beautiful harmonies on "Caroline No"), and the first three or four tracks are a gas.
So overall, surprisingly enjoyable! Certainly not the disaster I was expecting, and far from the worst thing in the Beach Boys saga. It also has some nice playing happening in the background.
