The first big box that made such a big impact on all of us. The Brian Wilson Production LP was so welcome.

Yes indeed. I have this box from World Records. I believe from Australia? With the dawn of CDs, my box probably hasn’t been opened since the late 80s.
Wow, didn’t know this came out on CD in Japan. Mine are LP from 1982-83 time frame.

On later Oz editions, they pulled the BW Productions disc. Luckily I acquired a Japanese LP set.

I remember buying the LP set at a local indie record shop in Houston back in 1981. I didn't know it was out. It was $110 and was the UK version from World Records. I remember being there with friends and they kept trying to talk me out of buying it because of the price. I had my check book and had just gotten my tax refund so....sold!
I got the Australian CD set back in the 90s and borrowed Bob Hanes' copy of the BW Productions CD to burn. Then about 15 years ago I found the Japanese set online and got that.

I am old and feeling stupid. I have owned the CDs from Australia for this set since the late 1990s. I got the Japanese set in 2006 for the great price of $80. Well, I was going thru the sets this weekend, having not listened to the Australia one since I got the one from Japan. Well, there are tracks on the Australia set that are in mono that are stereo on the Japanese set. Now normally this would not be a big deal. However, the Australia package was put together by Japan from tapes that Japan held. Since Japan put out their CD set in 1991 and the ones for Australia weren't released until 1994, it would be safe to assume that all Toshiba-EMI did was pull their tapes from 1991 and just copied those for Australia. But they did not. There are differences. Two tracks (Don't Back Down and Keep An Eye On Summer) are in mono on the Australia CDs and in stereo on the Japanese set. While Don't Back Down was available in mono in several places, Keep An Eye On Summer was not until the UK package SURF'S UP in 2008 and the 2012 CD remasters. Can't believe I missed this. As an extra added bonus, by having those two tracks in mono, the Australia package follows the original UK LP package while Japan does not. See for yourself.

I bought the Capitol Years LP box set complete with the Brian Wilson LP, but I don’t even know where it is. It’s most likely in a box in my garage, along with all my other vinyl, as I don’t even have turntable set up anymore.
My question is this: I was recently looking in the garage and found the (probably Australian) CD version of this box set. I must have put it in the garage thinking that there was nothing on it that wasn’t superseded by other CDs in better quality. But given how some wrong mixes or edits were included in many recent compilations, I wonder if I should bring it back into my collection due to some unique contents. Does anybody know?

I too have the set on Vinyl, but on 'Reader's Digest'. Can't really complain about the pressing quality, only the rotten 'duophonic' mixes within. Have not played the set in decades, but I picked it up second hand, but the record quality was superb. People may discount 'Reader's Digest', but they did some lovely vinyl pressings.
