Howdy Pardners - welllllllll, this is the second last of our Label Debut Survivor series, and it's gonna be a quick one, like, medication required to treat quick.
Stars and Stripes Volume 1, released in August 1996 on River North Records, in who's stable of producers was one Joe Thomas. A strange beast to hot mess of the band providing backing vocals to a famous (for some) stable of country singers + 1 Christian singer, backed by a bunch of Nashville muses. A great concept for a concert perhaps, but not a successful recorded venture - to the extent that Vol 2 got nixed at the expense of Tammy Wynette's cover of in My Room.
I want you all to cut to the chase and vote for YOUR FAVOURITE. Whoever gets the most votes gets the gong and we're done, or we'll go to a tie-breaker if 2 or X songs end up with level votes - I can already imagine what they'll be!
But I'll be goin' against the (assumed) grain and hitching my steed to 409 featuring Junior Brown, which is about the only track I got time for.
Kipee-yi-ay!!!!!

Well I miss bein’ here with y’all but I won’t regret it. Well I’ll be workin’ with Pa ‘till we hear that “Come and get it”. I’ll eat everything that Ma puts on the table. When I get back you won’t believe how I’ve grown! I’ll hit the sack early every night thinkin’ ‘bout tomorrow. Well I’m gonna spend this Summer back home.....
It wasn't easy for me at all to pick one - I really like these country versions of "Don't Worry Baby", "I Can Hear Music", "Caroline No", and the great giddy-up guitar work of "409". But I'll take........."Caroline No". No, wait.........."I Can Hear Music". Wait, no! "Don't Worry Baby".
How much time we got in case I wanna change it?

Caroline No, without doubt all hands down with no competition. Coming last at the moment! My brain hurts trying to understand how it can be last when only four posters have voted. Well, never mind. My main problem is that I don't know this album at all. I have it, thanks to a kind former Capital Board poster, and may conceivably have dipped into it. I'm busy right now, but I'll dip into it again before the deadline and then cast my vote.

Perfect backgrounds, lead vocal with raw emotion, and head and shoulders above the rest (plus the hair), not forgetting sheer class. Gotta be Willie (or Willy, if you're maybe compiling this in a hurry Alan)

I had to go with DWB with Lorrie Morgan, only because it gave us one of the best Mike Love quotes of all...

If Caroline No doesn't win by a magnificent margin, we'll know it's a fix f'sure.

I think there are 3 really good tracks here, 409, Warmth of the Sun and Caroline, No. It is tough for me to decide between these 3, but I will go with Junior Brown and 409.

Caroline No, without doubt all hands down with no competition. Good choice! Excellent rendition by Tim Schmit with Brian coming in at the end. Definitely a highlight of the album.

I gave "409" a listen and decided anything else would be pretty tame... ...so it gets my vote.

I was a Poco fan, but Timmy only gets close. The best one is "409".
