Just to give the VDP threads a bit of a rest, this is Walt Disney's brief but action-packed (and hilarious) take on Sergei Prokofiev's immortal story-set-to-music Peter and the Wolf. The original was narrated by Sterling Holloway; here David Bowie does the honours: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_and_the_Wolf_(1946_film)On the subject of Prokofiev, Sergei's grandson Gabriel, a composer himself as well as a DJ and producer, performed at an "after-party" at a Gergiev Festival concert some years ago, manning the electronics as a live string quartet played (if my memory serves me correctly), not unlike the set-up for Pastoral Reflections. The best part was that there was a waiter wandering about with a large bottle who kept refilling our glasses with vodka. Those were the days!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Prokofiev

I've been keeping an eye on this livestream video since yesterday. Morten Hilmer, the man from the Danish Wildlife link in my signature, rigged up a camera in this hollow tree, expecting maybe squirrels but instead getting a pair of Tawny Owls. So far, there's one egg (yesterday lying there for hours unattended to general alarm) now being kept warm by the female owl. They say we can expect up to three more during the coming days...

There are now three eggs. In this short video you can see the male owl (which Morten has christened Theodor) bringing a mouse to the female (Frida):

I was introduced to the 1980s funk band Zapp in a book dedicated to the genre and immediately investigated their recommended album Zapp II, side one of which -- the eleven-minute "Dance Floor", the skull-crunching "Playin' Kinda Ruff" and the preposterous "Doo Wa Ditty (Blow That Thing)" -- is eighties funk at its most colourful and hard-hitting. This Zapp promo video is, as far as I can ascertain, the only one on YouTube. From 1983's Zapp III, this is "I Can Make You Dance", with a prominent role for frontman Roger Troutman's talk-box. Utterly unique and instantly recognizable, Zapp's career ended in tragedy in 1999. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zapp_(band)

This is stunning. "Techno marching band Meute climbs up on to the roof of the Elbphilharmonie to serve fine techno beats with the Hamburg skyline as a backdrop." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elbphilharmonie
