I was just thinking, I know Ron appeared in the Dennis doc from a couple years ago, but has anybody ever done a really thorough interview with him? It seems to me he'd be an incredible resource for session and equipment info?

I interviewed Ron for my book on three occasions-Great Guy! However, I believe he is now no longer giving interviews, as he may be working on his own memoirs.

I hope he does put out some memoirs! And maybe if he does, he'd answer some questions again.

Lots of things like that to ask him! His tambourine technique! If the boys owned a Fender VI! If they had instruments in the studio we don't know about! Did he take photos!

He appears to be one of the group singing in the bridge to In the Back of My Mind, along with Carl, Marilyn and Dennis. It'd be nice to ask him about that for some confirmation. Interesting! May I ask how you can figure out his voice?

Around 2000 I got a hold of a Ron Swallow who I thought was the Ron Swallow but the guy would never confirm or deny he was THE Ron Swallow though he discussed the group in a general way. Never called back, pretty sure it wasn't THE.
Good story, Grandpa. (kids rolling eyes)

So Swallow was a good buddy of Carl and was their roadie around '65 and played the tambourine on Good To My Baby, Then I Kissed Her, You're So Good To Me, a cut or two on the Party! album, Sloop John B, and sings on the bridge on one of the Today! songs. What else? Here he is with Brian, Mike, Spector, and Bobby Hatfield. He's also pictured in one of the Teen Set magazines.

Ron helped them from 1961 onwards-first tagging along as Carl’s buddy and later as a paid employee -roadie, in charge of setting up on road and in studio. Also handled wardrobes. He left at the end of 1965-did not go on the Japan tour. At one point Carl and Ron shared a place and Dennis often stayed there too.later Ron and his wife stayed at Carl and Annie’s house for a while (pre 1969 when Carl had first child). Often played baseball with Brian in late 60s

By the way Ron became interested in music himself-and drummed for Glen on a few dates, when he opened for the BBs in mid to late May 1965. He formed a band and played clubs in California in 66-68 period. Also went to England for a while pursuing music. When he was on the road with the BBs-he also did lights and manned the sound board and sound checks. Steve Korthof became his assistant in 1965 and then took his various jobs when Ron left. Ron was on all the 1964 and 1965 tours but did not recall traveling with them on the first few tours in 1963. He did, however, go with them/help them at many California gigs in 62-63. He went to Hollywood Professional School with Carl in 1963-64.

He told me a great story about Brian. He was at a Prince Concert in the late 1990s (?) and Brian was there without Melinda. He saw Ron and came racing over and embraced him-was talking about old times, Hawthorne, etc. Those guys grew up together-got a lot of love for each other.

Couple more pictures of Ron Swallow in 1965, sitting in the back next to Carole Wilson. Ron didn't seem to smile a whole lot. Boy, he could play that tambourine!

Ron's name became famous all over the world when he was mentioned by Brian on the back cover of the Summer Days album:
"As I'm writing this, Carl, Ron Swallow, (our travelin' buddy and wardrobe man) and three girls with Earl Leaf are sitting around the coffee table singing Beatle songs".
